We discovered a new place the last time that we were in Charlottesville that we really enjoyed...........moderate prices and great atmosphere in casual setting. It is called the Shebeen and is a South African restaurant located right across the street from the Omni Hotel in Vinegar Hill Shopping Center, Downtown Charlottesville. We had wonderful lamb shanks there and an excellent South African meatloaf dish called batootie. Pricier places that we have enjoyed are the C and O and the Cosmopolitan. We went to a breakfast place that is very popular and called The Tavern (or something like that) and is located on Rt. 29. Do not waste your time. People have raved about it but it must have gone downhill because nothing we tasted was anything but below average for breakfast. On the way out, I noticed large containers of precooked eggs, bacon and sausage.

BTW, the Krispy Kreme in Charlottesville has been, sadly, 86'd.

I was at a great little seafood place called Tiffany's Seafood. On one of the main drags on the west side of town in a little strip mall. great atmosphere and service was friendly. carl reitz

Is this the correct address for the Charlottesville Spudnut shop: Spudnut Shop 309 Avon Street Charlottesville, VA 434-296-0590 If so, where is it generally in C'ville and are they open on Sunday mornings? I'll be in Charlottesville this weekend and wanted to check-out. Thanks!
