Chasing Classic Cars Mon, 12/27/10 5:25 PM (permalink)
This show has replaced Cash Cab as my favorite off the wall reality show. I like Wayne Carini's style, I can feel how much he loves his passion, and I salivate at the thought of owning many of the cars shown, not that I could afford any of them. What a great life he seems to have created for himself. Anyone else like this show?

I like the show because of the cars they show, and Wayne's passion for these cars, but find the fact he buys many of these cars for rich folks who may never see them, may never even drive them rather unpleasant. Many of them seem to be nothing more than check marks on some rich guys list. That seems a shame. I'd rather see someone buying them to use and enjoy.

Nick Mason from Pink Floyd is a serious collector who often draws criticism because he actually...gulp...drives or even races some rare cars. That I like.

I've never seen the show but if it's mostly about trailer queens I don't think I'd be interested.  Like Tony (and Nick Mason) I fully believe that in most cases classic cars should be driven, unless they're extremely rare or significant...like a Duesenberg SSJ, for example.

Pontiac advertising legend Jim Wangers ("the godfather of the GTO") has sold off some (and maybe even all) of his collectible cars because they're not being driven and enjoyed.  As yet I haven't shaken enough spare change out of the couch to get one for myself.

Ya'll need to come out here to Scottsdale in a couple of weeks for the Barrett-Jackson Auction. It's something to see even if you don't have enough $$$$ to buy a wrecked Yugo! The exhibits and auxiliary stuff are as much fun as the auction!

My favorite quote from Nick Mason (Drummer for Pink Floyd and avid vintage car racer renowned for his collection of 'priceless' Ferraris): When asked what would he do if he ever crashed one of his priceless Ferraris he replied; "Well...we fix it then...don't we?"
