I had my first ever Checker's Burger. Pretty good deal, for a buck. Also tried their Texas toasted double cheese. Very filling, and just a little too rich, and messy to eat. But I am sold on those single burgs.

Yes. They are pretty good. The nearest one to me is around 40 miles. All others have folded locally. Welcome to RF my friend.

They use to be in Knoxville but they folded. I personally found them mediocre at best. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

I really like their fries...I dunno what's in the seasoning salt they use...crack maybe? I can't stop eating them, though, so I hardly ever go there. Also, their banana shakes are pretty darn tasty (if I can't get to Steak & Shake it's a nice compromise). I honestly can't remember the burgers, so they must be pretty average. I know I've eaten them, they just don't stand out as good or bad.

Here in florida there are checkers all over the place... and I love their fries!! (I hope you got to try those also) Burgers are good... stay away from the fish, if you ask me. Chicken is "okay" but tastes more processed than a gigantic chicken nugget

I like how they grill their burgers fresh on the spot, no microwaves. The franchise in Michigan gives out these coupons with some very nice deals on them. Not to mention they have their monthly 2/$3 Big Buford deal.

That Big Buford is the real deal but since I was trying to just compare tastes, I conditioned myself to just the lowly, common, single burg with the works, hold the cheese. The fries are very good at Checkers, kind of a dusted version. They do not taste frozen, but sure they are. But like I said I didn't want to get side tracked and stuff myself with fries and forget my mission.

Checkers burgers are great..for fast food burgers...I just don't like the drive through mostly feature. Wish they had more sit down space so you could relax and enjoy them.

I used to eat at checkers a lot in the Orlando area, till one fateful day that the family and I pulled through and got burgers for lunch. As we bit into them, we realized that the patties, although cooked at some point were still frozen. I turned around and went back and a sheepish manager explained that sometimes, they cook the patties ahead and put them in the freezer, then thaw on the grill. Never ate there again. We don't have them back here in Kansas.

In Ohio, and at least another state, they are called Rally's and I think they are the best fast food burgers and fries IMO. I love their fries so much more than McDonald's, which I know is blasphemy to say to some people.

Surprising number of positive comments! Good for Checkers. I use to eat them several years ago. I also liked their fries and banana shakes...Haven't been back in a long time. Very reasonable in comparison to other fast food burgers and as good if not better than the others IMHO. Only negative for me is you have to eat in your car....Much too hot to eat outside here! Going on almost a month of plus 90 days right now...

The one near me ( South Holland IL ) is under the company's alternate brand name, Rally's. I've had their burgers and they're not bad for fast food; certainly better than those at McDumpster's and Burger Krud.

We don't have them back here in Kansas. While I like Checkers, I have this nagging feeling that the restaurants are not grilling raw meat hamburger patties. This is not impossible; frozen White Castle hamburgers sell pretty well in supermarkets around here. The sheepish manager may not have been lying; he just didn't say if the patties were cooked ahead of time in a USDA-inspected burger factory somewhere else, or on the premises of his Checkers. I should experiment with a good Checkers burger I get on Long Island. I should take it home, freeze it, then 'thaw it on the grill'. Somehow, I think it will taste awful. Checkers was talking about bringing a licensed NASCAR frozen burger out in supermarkets in 2006, but I never saw any. I could be wrong. Has anyone ever seen frozen raw burger meat in a Checkers or Rally's?

Checkers did have a NASCAR burger in 2006. I found them at some Wal-Marts in upstate NY. I can't remember the company that packed them but I still see them at Wally without the Checkers name.

we have the Rally's version here...and frankly...the burgers look better than they taste....the fries are great, the kids burger is really good, the chicken is good, even the hot dogs are good...but their fancy burgers don't taste like much...

Question for someone who has tried both Rally's and Checker's. Are they really the same thing under different labels? I know they are part of the same Corp. But do all the products match-up as well?? we had Rally's in SoCal ( I remember one in Bakersfield that we visted almost every trip thru town) and here in the Louisville area Rallys is the name. Do they overlap with Checker's anywhere??

Rally's had the option of going in, sitting down and ordering from a waitress whereas Checkers only has drive-thru, but the food was darn near identical. Could be different now, I suppose...that was about 6-7 years ago.

At one time there were two Checkers in Winston-Salem.They closed. have no clue why.. good food and they were always busy.. I loved the fries. I do not eat FF often.. but the fries.. wow. A friend told me Walmart had Checker/Rally fries in the frozen food section. I had to try them. The label has the old Checkers logo, and says Checkers/Rally fries on the bag. I put them in the fryer as directed and they were just like originals. I now go to "Wally World" just to pick a bag or three.

St. Louis at one time had both Rally's and Checker's locations, but all that are now remaining have been converted to Rally's - and they are exactly the same thing. As a matter of fact, all the bags, wrappers, cups, etc, at Rally's have both Checkers and Rally's on them - don't know why they don't just pick a name and go with it on all their restaurants.

Rt66Mike - don't know why they don't just pick a name and go with it on all their restaurants. Because people hate change. Replace the long time Rallys sign with Checkers and suddenly the burgers don't taste the same the fries are soggier even though nothing but a sign changed.

Something about the fries.. .... they are hit or miss... sometimes I got them, they had a burnt taste... then the next time, it was like you could suck the grease out of one end.... but I still went back.. Is it the seasoning?
