Cheerwine

I don't know if anyone around here has heard of this stuff but it's now being sold in middle-Tennessee. For the longest time you couldn't find it outside of North Carolina but Pepsi has picked up the bottling of it and are distributing it a bit farther than it's normal home.

Sucks for me though, I just moved back to Indianapolis and it's not sold here :(

There's a place in L.A. that sells all kinds of old timey sodas.  It's called Galco's soda pop stop.  I think they're on the web.  This is where I found that Cheerwine comes in diet too!

Cheerwine pairs nicely with pineapple juice to make a fruity punch and with a jar of maraschino cherries and a good homemade vanilla ice cream recipe makes a wonderfully different ice cream. With a couple of pounds of good Lexington barbecue and some slaw in the cooler, a case of Cheerwine makes a nice gift for my friends from college when I go to visit them up North.

Cheerwine has made it's way to Northern, VA suburbs of DC,  but not in MD - which is too bad, because I shop at the new Wegmans and Costco in MD (Woodmere).

The diet cheerwine tastes almost exactly like the regular. Just a little lighter on the tongue. Makes me happy, because, now, I control my carbs and with that, sugar.

I "discovered" Cheerwine at Yum Yum Better Ice Cream on Spring Garden St, in Greensboro, near UNCG. 2 all-the-way hots and a cheerwine (not diet) was my first experience. A scoop of ice cream for dessert. yup, it was Yum Yum!

I've been to Galco's in Highland Park.  Very interesting assortment of sodas, but I felt like the place was dirty.  It might not have been, but it felt that way.

Dan, you can get Cheerwine in Fishers, at their Do It Yourself Store, just off Allisonville Rd. For some reason they started carrying it recently, (along with other premium sodas). Worth the trip if you want to stock up! I've also heard that Cracker Barrel and Yats have had it on occasion. You could also take a roadtrip to Jungle Jim's in Cincy, if you're desperate, (we've done it about every 3 months for years).

We JUST started selling it in stores here in Gainesville, FL, used to only see it at the indian run convienence  stores.  Just had my first one and not to down it but I don't see what's so great about it, tastes like Publix brand black cherry to me, just not as sweet.

We live in Missouri and the only place to get it is at Cracker Barrel( thank goodness !). I have some relatives who live in North Carolina and they're the ones who turned us on to Cheerwine. My niece and I just love it !

The bottles of Cheerwine are sweetened with real cane sugar and this tastes the best. If you buy the cans online they are sweetened with corn syrup like most soda today.

It's in a few grocery stores in northern VA.  In addition to 12-oz cans and 2-liter plastic bottles,  the Wegman's store also has it in the old fashioned glass "coke bottle"-type bottles.  Those are the only way to go!   It makes it twice as good (to me).   Available in those old fashioned 12-oz glass bottles in both regular and diet.  $18.99 for a case of 24 of the glass bottles at Wegmans in Sterling, VA.

You can get it at Pine state Biscuits here in Portland, a place reviewed favorably in the 500 things book.

We went to Cracker Barrel while traveling Saturday, and thanks to hipsterr006's tip above, looked for Cheerwine...and they had TWO 4 packs in the 12 oz bottles..the classic made with sugar...so after  66 years,I got to taste my first Chyeerwine. It was great...like some have said, like black cheery...tasty and refreshing. Thanks to all who helped make this possible, Our Cracker Barrel is in New Jersey, so if we had it, I'm sure most others do too. Give it a look...Sold them for $1.09 a bottle...not cheap, but worth it  so as not to be a Cheerwine virgin anymore!!!

I live in South Carolina, so Cheerwine is a pretty common thing around here. I'm a fan of the stuff, myself, but you have to be careful about which "containment method" you choose. Cheerwine actually uses a slightly different formula tailored to each bottling/canning method, with glass bottles using natural cane sugar instead of HFCS. The glass bottles are the only way to go, in my opinion. The cane sugar really lends a light, crisp flavor to the drink, especially when it's super cold.

Yeah, I really don't mind HFCS all that much, but I understand the aversion. There's just a sort of dryness or lightness that comes with natural sugar that you don't get with corn syrup. I feel like HFCS tends to leave things a little bit too heavy, especially when used in unnecessarily large quantities.

I didn't care for it initially, but when it formed slushy ice crystals in my ultra-cold fridge, I thought it tasted absolutely sensational.  That's how I drink it now and love it!
