I've heard rumblings of this for a while. My opinion, worth nothing of course, is that Pat's will prevail and Rick's will be limited in what it can and how it can say that it's part of the Pat's heritage. Another group has had a similar situation. One of Jim's Steaks owners opened his own store, Abner's in the University City part of Philly. Abner's makes cheesesteaks exactly like Jim's does. They are separate entities.

There is nothing like family. A couple furniture stores had a similiar family feud here in Portland, Oregon.

We've got a local Italian chain called DiCicco's.. there are probably close to a dozen restaurants but not all run by the same family members.. each week in the mail we get 2 or 3 different DiCicco's ads, each ad listing similar specials.. I've heard the original split between the brothers was something Godfather-esque... just don't ask for the wrong special in the wrong store...

There was a similar situation in Lockhart Tx. with Kruzes Mkt. BBQ. The father willed the buisness to two siblings. He left the building where the BBQ restaurant was to the daughter and the BBQ buisness to the son in the hopes that they would work together. Instead the daughter evicts the brother and opens here own BBQ joint with a different name. And the brother has to build his own new restaurant with the old name. Neither were ever the same as the old place. joe
