Cheez Waffies Nostalgia

Hi Everyone,

I am now snacking on a bag of Wise Cheez Waffies.  Does anyone remember in the late 1960's or 1970's the same type waffle cheese snack that was bought in a round tube almost exactly like Pringles Chips?  I do, and would love to see a picture of the tube and know who made it way back then, plus a little history of the snack and company.

Thanks!
Bob

Weren't the ones in the can Old English brand?
Or, I am recalling a different product?

Cheez Waffies were originally manufactured in the northeast by Old London and indeed they were packed in a tubular cardboard container, I remember that vividly; Wise licenses the name for broader distribution. In fact, you can still find 'original' Old London brand in many supermarkets in the NY area (Waldbaum's for sure, occasionally Pathmark and Shop-Rite), although they are called "Waffle Snacks".  In fact, in addition to the familiar and traditional 'cheddar' flavored waffies, Old London produces a 'swiss' flavor waffie, which I have tried, but which isn't nearly as good as the 'cheddar' flavored ones.
There's loads of good information on this 'internet' thing, via such sites as "Google" (which kicks up the Old London Foods website pretty fast), "Clusty" and other search engines. If you're that interested, I'm sure you could search out a photo of the old container and then post it here for all to enjoy.

I love Cheez waffies. The problem is when we buy them, we need more than 1 bag so we don't fight over them

Good news for you all Old London Cheese Waffies fans! Amazon now has them for $28.20 for a case of 12, 4.5 oz. bags. My first case arrived today and they were extremely fresh, tasty, and had the unique aroma & aged cheddar taste that I remember from the 50's & 60's. The expiration date on the bags is July 17, 2010 so they will last a while, if you can refrain from snarfing them down. (I can't). Enjoy!

For those living in Northern New Jersey (at least), Shop-Rite supermarkets carry boxes of Old London Cheese Waffles (cheddar and swiss), and have been for at least the last decade.

bartl, Living in rural Tn. it's sometimes difficult to find items that are available in more urban areas. I wish I had a Shop-Rite, or similar store, that handled Old London Waffies locally. Amazon has really helped us "country folks" to be able to obtain food products that just can't be found in our local stores, even large chains such as Wal-Mart, Kroger, Target, etc. I was able recently to find both Zagnut & Chick-O-Stick candy bars at a Family Dollar store. I haven't tried the Swiss cheese Waffies but do remember that they had a Bleu Cheese version back in the early 60's that was quite tasty. Don't guess they make that flavor anymore. Thanks for the info. about Shop-Rite.
