Did we have one more stop in us...is the Pope Catholic? Does buffetbuster enjoy pie....
One of my favorite foods is Sushi and as the Roadfood Digest thread titled
Cool Sushi in the California dessert says..."It's not exactly roadfood, but few foods are more hand-made and labor intensive as Sushi!" And we agree!
My favorite place was just a mile or so from my home until about 6-8 months ago, when the head chef departed to try his knife on his own. As it's now an hour drive from my home and generally speaking, a parking nightmare, we have only been down once to visit. Since we were just blocks away, and really hungry after our Chicago Style Dog, Italian Beef, Patty Melt and Swedish Pancakes, we were there in minutes. The parking gods were with us that day and we scored a front door spot completing a perfect parking quinella for the day.
Now, for the last 5 years, I haven't ordered a thing...the boys just create! Every new dish goes through its trail period and I've tried 'em all. sometimes twice a week, sometimes not for a month, but after 5 years, we'd had a lot of great dishes It had been a great ride and getting back in front of the Master was exciting.
I was so excited that I forgot to take half of the pictures, but here's a recap of 4 dishes out of many.
Additionally, there was a Japanese salad...
...which I used between courses to cleanse the palate.
And my favorite...
...Squid Salad, extra hot and with sesame seeds...smoking!
The Willow...
...this one is actually named as I had not had it before...Eel, cream cheese, cucumber and avocado lightly breaded (Tempura style) and deep fried. It's topped with eel sauce and a spicy mayo. Delicious!
Here's a poor picture but a good shot of the double saucing...
Next up, a new creation...spicy squid,, rice, mango and avocado in a soy paper with a sweet sauce...refreshing!
Next up, the highlight of the evening...it was so good, I wouldn't even be able to take any photos...crab and spicy tuna with wasabi mayo inside out sprinkled with dry bonito flakes and then topped off with super white and a citrus sauce. Holy Sushi Batman! Simply the best!
Next up...shrimp tempura and spicy squid inside out with tempura crunchies on the top and then covered and rolled n spicy tuna...
...it's pretty neat to have your favorite sushi roll remembered!
One last shot...Green Tea Mochi (a frozen ice cream dessert wrapped in rice paper), quartered and served with a little chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
There was so much more...but I was to into the evening with a great friend and my younger son to take many more pictures...food, family, friends and fun!
