Chicago Loop - Siam Rice Tue, 10/12/04 4:33 PM (permalink)
If you're in Chicago's Loop around lunch time and in the mood for Thai food, I recommend Siam Rice, on the east side of Wells between Washington and Randolph. I've eaten there three times and was impressed all three. Today's lunch was the best yet - I ordered beef noodle soup, which came in a huge bowl with plenty of garlic and cilantro to bring out the flavor. The meat was a little tough, but didn't have any fat sticking to it and was plentiful. All in all, the flavor was wonderful. On a visit a few weeks ago, I tried a chicken curry dish that was quite good (very spicy). My dining companion today seemed to enjoy his spicy chicken fried rice (not really a Thai dish, I know). It's very crowded at lunch time, with 10-15 minute waits. Prices are mostly well below $10 per entree (my soup was $5.25 and served as a full meal). Definitely worth a try in an area where it's hard to find non-chain cheap food.
