Chicago RIBS

I may have a chance to ride the train into Chicago in two weeks
And I'm hungry for RIBS So that means from downtown, it walking, buses or cabs ... But I'm open for all suggestions
HELP raise my total cholestrol

Carson's...600 something North Wells..Good Steaks and Ribs. Anchovey dressing for the salad is "interesting". Not cheap, but no standing up to eat either.

The Rib House on Chicago Ave. a couple blocks west of Michigan Ave. If you're looking for fall-off the-bone meat with a great bbq sauce go here. Much better than Carson's or Twin Anchors!!

BTW, You have a choice of a roll or a grilled pita with honey butter. I go with the grilled pita. It also comes with tasty baked beans and cole slaw.

Though I never ate there, I understand Leon's is the place to go. Anyone back me up?

Lem's or Leon's can't be beat. The smokiness of Lem's ribs is addictive. Leon's has a slightly more interesting sauce. Cab it to BOTH. You can't go wrong.

I second the thought on Lem's or Leon's. Not downtown, but well worth the cab ride. (But bring your own moist towelettes. There aren't enough napkins in Chicago to deal with these bones.)

might be a little tardy on this, but Merle's in Evanston gets my vote for the best ribs in the Chicago area. Dry smoked with an excellent rub and good sauce on the table to add while eating.

TWIN ANCHORS is the BEST rib joint in Chicago -- off the beaten path and not a lot of ambiance, but the ribs....mmmmmm.

The FIREPLACE INN is also good.

The last time I was in Chhicago, I was taken to a place called "Robinson's" for ribs. I tried to do a search for the address but came up dry. It was not in the best neighborhood, but the ribs were GREAT!

An internet "Yellow Pages" search comes up with Robinson's #1 Ribs at 3 locations. Could any of these be where you were?

We are on our way to a Cubs game, so I am inclined to think that it was the Armitage location.....but, it sure seemed like more of a "south side" kind of a place. Again, I was only there once, and wasn't driving, so my sense of direction may be slightly off.

Also, I tried searching "Robinson's Ribs" which I suspect is why I couldn't get a match....was missing #1. Oh well. Thanks for helping out. They were some tasty ribs.

You have chance, go to Lake Geneva Wisconsin. There is a Rib joint just west of Lake Geneva called Mars. Take route 50 a few miles outside of Lake Geneva, you'll make a left at a florist shop, name unknown, street name unknown. This place overlooks Lake Como, telephone number is (262) 245-5689.

Another place for ribs (1 slab for around 19.95, 2 slabs of ribs for around 29.95 or 3 slaps for 38.95, these slaps over hang the plate!!! what a deal) in the far western suburbs is call Al Capones Speakeasy or also known as the Hideaway in the small town of Valley View. Its between St. Charles and Elgin
www.speakeasycigarco.com. This place also serves up some fine cuts of steaks and prime rib. Its a drive but I think worth it. It is right on the Fox river. Call for directions because this place is hard to find!

My brother's favorite rib place is Gale Street Inn on Milwaukee Ave. at... Gale Street. Parking lot, pleasant neighborhood, ribs falling off the bone. Just one thing, the potatoes au gratin always seem undercooked.

Everytime I hear Ribs and Chicago in the same sentence I think of a M*A*S*H* episode where Hawkeye goes nuts over "Adam's Ribs" next to Dearborn Station. Is there actually such a place?

I don't think there was ever an "Adam's Ribs," and the Dearborn Street Station, where the Super Chief arrived from LA, was torn down long ago.

Never had ribs at the Hideaway but I can attest to the quality of their food which is top notch! A real unique place and worthy of the trip! But, yes, even though I live in the area and have been there many times, it is hard to find!

Just returned from Chicago and hit the Twin Anchors. Unfortunately I was disappointed with the ribs. No question they were extremely tender and literally fell off the bone, but I found them not to be very flavorful.....just one man's opinion

My husband and I love the Gale Street Inn. The bbq sauce is really good, and the meat comes right off the bone.
