Chicago Reader's 12 Hot Dog Stands

Hot Dougs is an institution and probably does not even belong on this list, because IMO it is not really a "hot dog stand". Don't get me wrong, I have eaten there, bith the new and old places and it is great, just not really what I call a hot dog stand.
 
I enjoy the Vienna Beef Factory and of course Gold Coast, but this list IMO (again) is nothing new. Same old places we all read about before.
 
My new favorite place is the Chubby Weiner on Western Ave, just south of Lawrence. Good fries and a great hot dog.

ok...so I have to ask.  Why do u say Hot Doug's doesn't qualify as a hotdog stand but say nothing about Jim's Original or Express Grill who are know for their polish sausage and pork chop sandwiches rather then their hot dogs???

Jims and the Express serve lot's of traditional hot dogs. Hot Dougs serves more gourmet type sausages. Again, this is just my opinion. I enjoy Hot Dougs and Jims, but I just do not lump them together.
