We are planning a road trip on our way to our new home in Houston. We'll be looking for breakfast in central to southern Illinois, lunch and dinner in Memphis, breakfast and lunch in northern Louisiana (between Memphis and Shreveport and near Shreveport near Interstate 20). Dinner in Houston, we can handle ourselves. Does anyone have good suggestions? Any kind of food.

Not to far east of Memphis is Hays Smokehouse BBQ. It definately has to be in the top 10 in the USA as testified by many on this site. It is in Lexington, TN about five miles south of I-40. Be sure to get their ribsand pulled pork. Their slaw is excellent and the Hays family is wonderful. You can review this site. Photos are later in the site but you can read about the area. You will have the best BBQ in your life and it is well worth the best side trip you will ever have. The Sundancer guarantees it. http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2343&whichpage=1 Paul E. Smith knoxville, TN

George's (a couple of blocks east of Strawn's) and Strawn's Eat Shop (125 Kings Hwy)are both on Kings Hwy in Shreveport and are great places for breakfast or lunch.

Mrs SaiLew: Memphis................ here is a recipe for a wonderful evening in Memphis 1st. .......... cocktails in the lobby of the beautiful Peabody Hotel http://www.memphisite.com/peabody/ (wait to you see the ducks ride the elevator to there roost on the hotels roof top.) ..."I kid you not" Then walk across the street to the end of the alley, on the right a sign, Charlie Vergo’s Rendezvous. BBQ Ribs http://www.hogsfly.com/index_main.html The best Memphis has to offer with all the color of being in the center of this great town. After your rib dinner you may walk another three blocks to the famous Beale Street Home of the Blues http://www.bealestreet.com/ And the "Blues City Dinner" where you can have your hunk of pecan pie. And across the street from the dinner.... BB Kings joint for some wonderful blues music........... That's Memphis in a nutshell, no need to roam all over the South you'll have it all within a short walk. ............... Have fun, Frank
