Lori is considering some sort of festive Halloween sweater. I'm not planning to do anything costumey myself.

I have not seen anyone requesting me to come by the hotel on the way to Thursday night festivities. If you'd like to ride with us, please let me know on this thread or in a PM.

I think we're going to check in Thurs night and then join the Greek restaurant group.
Is there any eta for for Greek rest or any consensus on which restaurant?
They're all good-
I also like Santorini, which has lovely decor and a focus on seafood.

The plan is to be back at the hotel in Chicago by 10pm Friday night. The last stop in Milwaukee is Solly's Grille, where we'll be having butter burgers and banana malts. Prior to Solly's, we will be at the Taste of Home test kitchens, which is a rare opportunity that has me panting with ravenous desire!

We'll have an announcement regarding Thursday night's gathering on Thursday morning.  Time, place, and a current RSVP list will all be posted.

I like Santorini too, but I'm leaning toward either Pegasus (owned by the Santorini folks, but a broader menu with less emphasis on seafood) or Greek Islands.  Greek Islands is a bit more theatrical and could be a kick for the out-of-towners, but I think Pegasus might have slightly better food.  Any thoughts from the locals?

Also, one of our party members, who prefers to remain anonymous for now, may have some other, non-Greek suggestions.  All will be revealed Thursday morning...

Depending on the ultimate size of our group- Greek Islands can easily accomodate a larger group-
however a Thursday night shouldn't be an issue either way-it's not Sat-
and what time do we wrap up on Saturday?
Thanks....

I would be interested in a ride Thursday evening for my friend and myself from the hotel to the Greek restaurant.  We are arriving O'Hare early Thursday afternoon.  Thanks in advance.

lefty66: We'll plan to pick you and your friend up at the hotel. I'll send you a private message with contact information.

I don't know anything about our rental car, but I think that four people in the car is likely to make it fairly full. I'm unlikely to be able to offer a ride to anyone else unless there's just one person to squeeze in.

Regardless of where we end up, now is the time to chime in if you're interested in joining the group.

So far I'm aware of 4 from the Roadhouse family, 2 Meltons, 2 from irisarbor, 2 from lefty 66, and 6 players to be announced.  Total, 16 people.  Not a problem, but if you want to join us, please let us know now.  We will do our best to provide transportation from the hotel, but obviously can't accommodate everyone if the group grows.  A cab ride to Greek Town should be $10 or less.

Please remember this is a 9:00pm or later gathering, so make your plans accordingly.

The reservation is made!  We'll be meeting at Greek Islands restaurant at 9:30 tonight.

The guest list includes Ralph and Lori Melton, irisarbor and husband Frank, lefty66 and guest, abe_foeman and Mr. Maki, me and the wifey, and late arrivals ChiTownDiner and his brother, buffetbuster and Mariton, and Cousin Johnny!  The reservation is made for 15-20 people, so if others decide to join the group, we'll have some extra room.  If you are planning to join us, please tell us now so we can let the restaurant know what's going on.

See you all at 9:30 tonight!

Stephen Rushmore Jr.

We are going to depart from the Holiday Inn Mart (Chicago) at 9:30 AM sharp, so arrive about 10-15 minutes early.

This is all I know....

Just checked in...going to walk off my Gibson's lunch...try a few new spots...see you all at Greek Islands with the posse.

Mike Jordan - meet in lobby of holiday Inn by 9:15am Friday as per Stephen's post.  It's usually around 40-52 folks, so no tix are needed.  If you want an early start, the list provided by Bruce of restaurants within a few minutes walk is a good one.  After that, cab over to Greek Islands and meet a few more folks both on the tour bus and from the local area.

cruggeri,
Not sure if you're talking about tomorrow's run up to Milwaukee, or if you're talking about the extra-curricular get together tonight.  If you're referring to this evening's gathering, see my answer to mondaymeme below.  If you're talking about tomorrow's trip, I'll leave that to someone more qualified than myself to answer.

mondaymeme,
We're working on getting you, and anyone else who wants to join us tonight, a ride to the restaurant.  Please understand though, this is an unsanctioned event and is not part of the "official" tour.  Car space is limited and if we can't get you a ride and you still want to join us, it will be up to you to provide your own transportation.

Getting a cab at the hotel should be no problem, and it is a short ride to the restaurant.  Again, here is the information if you need to take a cab:

Greek Islands Restaurant
200 South Halsted Street
(312) 782-9855

I would say, if you haven't heard from anyone, or seen any new information on this thread by 9:00pm, you should go ahead and grab a cab.

We look forward to seeing you at the restaurant.

mondaymeme,
It's 8:45 and I haven't heard from irisarbor about picking you up.  Go ahead and take a cab, and we'll try to get you a ride back to the hotel so we can at least save you the cab fare home.

See you at Greek Islands!

We are looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Thanks to all who joined us.  The usual suspects, of course; ChiTownDiner, irisarbor and husband Frank, abe_froeman & Mr. Maki (ah, the joys of parenthood), Mrs. Roadhouse, and semi-regulars buffetbuster, Mariton, the infamous Cousin Johnny, and CTD's brother, Cary.  We were happily accompanied by out-of-towners Ralph Melton and wife Lori, lefty66 and wife Barbara, and mondaymeme and her friend Corkie.

There was enough food, both quantity and variety, on the table to make up a Roadfood tour all on its own.  At the end of the night, there was nothing left and I'm pretty sure no one went back to the hotel hungry.

If the rest of the weekend lives up to the preliminaries, I think you'll all have a great time!

See you occasionally along the way...
