Chicken Corn Soup

I never did do a trip report when we visited Amish Country, Pittsburgh and Scranton back in August 2013. We did get to experience quite a cross section of gastronomic delights in the Keystone state, however one of the shining moments was this exquisite bowl of creamy chicken corn soup, generously loaded with rivel.

Rissers Restaurant is definitely my "go to" restaurant when in Amish Country. I have only been there twice and both times my meal (or the second time around, our meal) has always been top notch. Not only that but the proprietor, Ernie Risser deserves extra special kudos for truly caring about his customers.

That's a nice bowl of soup!  It doesn't appear to be overloaded with carrots (a pet peeve of mine) and it's nice to see bits of herbs in the broth.  It's a little tough to be interested in soup in the middle of summer but turn the A/C high enough and that bowlful would taste really good.

I had to look up rivel to learn that it's a small dumpling made of butter, egg, and flour.

Ironically it was one year ago that I enjoyed that bowl of soup in the middle of summer, most likely because 2 years prior I went to three Amish Restaurants and there was not a bowl of Chicken Corn Soup in sight...

Nothing wrong with a good bowl of soup in the summer.  Chicken corn sounds like a winner.

Buffetbuster's  peach pie takes priority, however I'll certainly take you up on your offer.
Ironically, last year we actually brought over a fresh peach pie from Rissers to Buffetbuster and Mariton when we stayed with him in Pittsburgh.
