Chico, California

Hi. Soon I'm going to Chico, California (just after I go to Casper, Wyoming). I'm only going to be there two days on business and sadly won't have much time to go exploring too far beyond the heart of the city. Does anybody have any recommendations for exciting and unique places to eat? (I favor American cuisine but will just about anything a shot, especially if it's difficult to find elsewhere--and cheap!)

Thanks!

Morning Thunder!!!!!! Best breakfast in town with good coffee-large portions-great quality and the best looking friendliest staff in town!--Wonderful biscuits and gravy!!!--i lived there for 20 yrs and miss this place a lot! Its only a couple of blocks from downtown nand easy to find--ask anyone!

Shuberts Ice Cream--really fine quality in house made ice cream!--on East 7th right downtown--Chico Mint is my fave!

Sin of Cortez---great btrekfast and very interesting dinners--always a little offbeat-but very good--on the Esplanade--around the 2000 block or so

Pommes Frites--killer fries and great fish and chips--on Broadway right downtown--in the 100 blocck near campus

Tacos Guadalajara---best fish tacos in town!!! On East Ave at Floral i think

Sharon's Cookhouse--one of my faves!!! Great soulfood and barbecue abd Sharon is a sweetheart! Hard to fined--not far from downtown-but you might not notice it--on Dayton rd at the corner of Pamona---just past the next pick

Taco Cortez--what started a a taco truck and grew to be the fave burritto stop for the collefe crowd--godd--but SLOW!

and DO NOT MISS--Sierra Nevada Br3eewery and Taproom--FABULOUS beer and ale and great food---the appetizers are killer!!--and a state of the art music hall that has great blues!!

there was also a great Thai place downtown in a basement but i cant remeber exactly where

You got me missing all my old faves--hope this helps---oh--there is also a spot on the esplanade--the Red Tavern--very good fine dining last i was there--ENJOY--its a fun town!

Tiki: what was the place that had the BBQ sauce bacon burgers? And I miss Flumeburger for breakfast - must have eaten there 300 times between 1981-1984. Tacos Cortez ROCKS, and Pommes Frites are fries to die for, and the dipping sauce options sublime!

And Brooklyn Bagels!!!!!!--best in the west-and good lox! Also--for coffee--Naked lounge!--and that killer little pastry shop bakery downtown next to the used bookstore!!!

I think I was clouded, as if affected by some sort of "smoke" on the bacon aspect of the burger - it was likely Burger Hut.

I've had better bagels in California than Brooklyn Bagels The lox IS good there though

Chico is a great place to find good food to eat.  The suggestions above are all good.  If you're looking for any events that might be going on, some of the city history, go to www.livinginchico.com to find out all the information you will need for your trip!  There is also a list of restaurants and their locations on the Restaurants tab. Enjoy!
