Chili Dogs with BEANS! Fri, 06/20/08 11:04 PM (permalink)
I've always been the neutral party, not caring if there was beans or not in my chili sauce... Figured it was a Northern thing to accept this fact. But today, I see this review by Al and Janet Bowen that shows me it goes way further south then the northern deal...

A definite beans in your chili dog is shown here from Tennessee. Not a dog you want to chow down driving down the road..

Yeah that's definitely a fork and knife kind of chili dog!

I will put dogs in my Ranch Style Beans, and those beans do have a chili kinda flavor, so... hey that looks good to me. It's not Texas chili so I think it's OK.

Yeah, Vic, LITTON'S in Knoxville, TN really knows how to load a Chili Dog! I don't think I could eat that and then drive anywhere without the windows wide open ! The person who ordered that Dog (not in our party) took quite awhile to devour it all!

As I said in the "I'm at a loss" thread in the chili section, I will put dogs in my Ranch Style Beans, and those beans do have a chili kinda flavor, so... hey that looks good to me. It's not Texas chili so I think it's OK.

Ya, it do be a bit overkill there, but I sure wouldn't mind trying one of them puppies out!

If that dog had mustard under that chili it would be perfect!

My MIL loves chili dogs but always asks before ordering whether it has beans, if so than no go for her.

There was a bar near to my house that used to serve a "chili dog" that way. I was startled, to say the least. I expected something that one could eat hand-held! But, I went with the flow, and used the fork and knife that they provided with it, and washed it down with a cold beer.

Ya know,I like Chili with beans as much as the next guy...but when so many beans are added,it becomes a way to stretch the chili...I rather more meat..and less beans...that picture looks like just a few too many beans!!!!!

UncleVic, you've hit upon one of my biggest gripes. Beans on a hot dog. I love beans, and I'll even tolerate them in chili, but never on a hot dog. Mercy me. I must be The Lone Ranger in this respect.

So sad that that hot dog and chili was destroyed by the beans. Beans should be in a bowl on the side...Russ

I love chili dogs and chili burgers...with no beans! I like beans, and even "chili beans", but sauce for the dogs and burgers should be meat only! (Baked bean and chili bean sandwiches excluded)

It wasn't destroyed, it was just covered. Some people like beans in the chili. Some people like cheese on a hamburger. What's the big deal?

We all have our own definitions when it comes to what is right and what is wrong about differents foods and how they're served. I've come to learn what is one man's "right" around here is another man's "wrong"!!!

My bro gave me a chili mix called "A$% kikin Chili". It has a bag of beans that comes with it. I asked if he bought that in Texas. He said NO. I said THAT'S GOOD! There are two kinds of beans, black and pinto in the bag. I am going to make chili beans with the beans and half of the seasonings, and chili, no beans, w/ the other half. So what if the difference between chili beans and chili? Lot's of beans and juice, and just a small amount of ground meat in chili beans. At least that's what I call chili beans. Chili is thick, and with no, or just some beans.

My sweety likes Ranch Style beans in her chili. I just heat some up on the side and she can add what she wants.

One of my grandsons likes corn in his chili. Same deal, corn on the side, and he can add what he wants. He also likes some Tony's Bold in his chili. Hey, that's fine. I like extra jalapenos in my chili.

My point here is... the chili world can live in piece!

I make adult Bennie Weenies with Ranch Style Beans. One can each of original, sweet onion, jalapeno, and two packs of sliced up John Morrell jumbos, 8 to a pack. This was a request at a wedding once, by the bride. Hmm, was that smart of her? Hey, they are still married! :~)

I was willing to accept your recipe, even allowing the added Ketchup...and would suggest adding a can of Mex-style refried beens to give the runny sauce some "body", However you threw in the towel when you narrowed your weinie choice to Bar S. Having lived on a Ramen, cheap ground meat, and pork n beans budget for several years I swore never to eat those wienies again. I am not much of a weinie fan, but do like some wienie length sausages...but keep the Bar S out of my sight Please !!

as I've been finding out, apparently not everyone...so far I've met 2 people who've never had them...both grew up rather well-to-do. I guess rich families don't eat em! They don't know what they're missing.. (of those 2, btw, 1 had also never had meatloaf!)

Al that post was in humor not for real. Look at the quantities. First I would never eat a Bar-S dog. By far he worst Hot dog ever. Store Brand Chili Powder is always horrible and outdated. And the Full 28 oz ketchup bottle. Well I think you all know how I feel about Ketchup on a Hot Dog. Have a great 4th of July.

Al I lived on a tight budget in my youth and survived on cheap chicken parts, baked potatoes, cheap hot dogs and beans, Boonesfarm,Reagan Cheese, and Ramen. However I still love Ramen...Russ
