Depends upon the brand. I'll settle for Hagen-Daaz Strawberry, though.

A really strong flavored Strawberry, with Strawberry Ripple and Whole Strawberries wins the decision for me.

Well, sometimes strawberry is better, but only specific brands. Otherwise, I'll settle for chocolate.

I like both, just depends on my mood. But there are few things that beat strawberry ice cream with big chunks of frozen strawberries on a hot summer day. You can feel a chill as you swallow the frozen strawberries, very refreshing.

Blue Bunny strawberry works for me. Big chunks of strawberries with their luscious ice cream.

Either is great, especially in a sundae with the other as a topping - Strawberry ice cream with hot fudge sauce, or Chocolate ice cream with strawberry topping.

I've become a big strawberry fan in recent years, but I haven't found any great grocery strawberry brands. Actually, I prefer Breyer's strawberry way more than Hagen-Daaz. But for a really great strawberry experience, go to Cold Stone Creamery and have them mix in their real strawberries and chopped almonds with their strawberry ice cream. My wife and I think it's out of this world. Just excellent. - Rusty

IMO Breyers is just north of ice milk, while the HD is one of the high fat brands. When you mentioned that CS is your favorite, I started to wonder, because CS is also a higher fat brand. Interesting.

it depends on the brand and the season.. in very hot weather I prefer fruit flavors.. and the best strawberry I've had is a local brand called Braun's... For chocolate it must be very intense and not too sweet... Godiva brand dark chocolate ice cream works well..

Tmiles - I hear you and I can't explain the seeming inconsistency. But Haagen-Daaz strawberry was just absolutely bland for me, flatter than flat, albeit with the high-fat essence you describe (which I found cloying and nasty), and far fewer berries (or even berry bits) than I might have expected to find in such a high-quality ice cream. OTOH, I find Breyer's strawberry taste to be creamier and smoother, with a truer fruit flavor, although I will concede there may be better grocery brands to be found, if you might recommend some. I do have to politely disagree with you about Breyer's. Their natural vanilla and butter almond cannot be beat, in my book. I wait in vain for a Breyer's pistachio flavor. I should really try their peach. As for my Cold Stone strawberry recommendation, I urge you to give it a try. It's really sensational if mixed as described, just sticking with their strawberry ice cream, real strawberries and chopped almonds. I don't know if that can be topped, actually, by another strawberry brand. - Rusty

If it’s between premium quality strawberry or chocolate ice cream, that’s a tough call. But if it’s lower quality, I generally stick with chocolate, since that can still be satisfying, while artificially flavored strawberry ice cream is always a letdown.

I'm with meowzart -- almost. French vanilla.
