Those forum members sure know Chicago.  That didn't take them very long at all.  Thanks for taking the effort to confirm my guess.  (BTW - I really lucked out with that phone number that I thought was an address.  What are the chances of that?).

As for the Original Pancake House, I think that counts as being close enough to count.  It's also been approved as an acceptable chain for Roadfood by Michael Stern.

I'm looking through the WI Historical Society photo collection.  I found this and will post more.

This diner was located on Williamson St. in Madison.  I have passed this very spot 1,000's of times without any sign of this diner from the 1950's.  Those are the MG&E smokestacks in the background.

As long as we are pinpointing what's at the location of old restaurants, this is what the location of The Spot now looks like.  There's an Indonesian restaurant in that strip mall.  I suppose I should eat there.

This looks pretty close to the streetcar they turned into the diner, although the diner looks like a shorter version.
