Christmas in (New) Mexico.. Mon, 12/25/06 6:12 PM (permalink)
We arrived in Albuquerque about 6:30 Christmas Eve and after leaving the airport, we were hungry but we couldn't find anyplace open except Arbys, no thanks). Same in Santa Fe, everything closed except convenience marts at gas stations.

Christmas morning, the same. Even Albertson's was closed all day. My final thought was to go to Santa Fe plaza and get something at Starbucks (sorry), which I was sure was open (and it was).

But then to my wondering eyes should appear.....
ROQUE'S Cart, open at the plaza!!!! (Roques' has been written up at RF). A godsend....fab chicken carnitas, tasty tamales, but the piece de resistance:

a big pot op homemade GREEN CHILE STEW!!!!

Spooned into a red plastic drinking cup, no lid, chocked full of nice prok cubes, potaties and green chile. Only $4 (with hot tortilla). Yes, there is a Santa Claus. Thanks, Roque!!
