Church Dinners In Vermont Thu, 10/28/04 6:50 PM (permalink)
Well, I recently had a nice fall foliage tour of Vermont a few weeks ago and enjoyed some church dinners- a Turkey Dinner at the Masonic Hall in Woodstock and A roast Beef dinner in Brownsville At the Methodist Church.

Anybody had some similar experiences?

I never had one in Vermont, but I grew up in a Massachusetts church where they were a tradition. I don't go to "my" church anymore, having married out of the faith, but they still do 1 or 2 a year. If you look around in a populated part of New England, you should be able to find one within an hour drive just about any weekend. The bake sales are harder to find, but a lady I work with donates a magazine cover quality cake every year to her church bake sale. They are not cheap. The cakes are expensive to make and she demands that they be priced to make money. Maine is known for bean suppers. Maybe there is an interfaith church web site where dinners and bake sales are listed.

The Saturday before Thanksgiving, the UU church in Bradford VT hosts a game supper: my wife's family has driven up for it every year for close to a quarter-century, turning it into a ritual weekend of roadfood in the process.
