Cincinnati Coney Islands

I'm from Cincinnati and can never get enough of the Coney Islands when I visit. I live on the Central Coast of California now, and have found the Gold Star Chili online, but am unable to find the hot dog (they're not regular hot dogs) and buns. I'm thinking that maybe someone ships them frozen like Omaha Steaks. Can anyone be of help?

The hot dogs are I believe Kahns or oscar myer. very small I believe 10-1s. Sad my memory is fading . I worked at skyline years ago and I am pretty sure it was Kahns.

For awhile one of the chili parlors was using the Hillshire Farms Cheese-stuffed sausage/dogs for a special they had running. I got quite attached to the Hillshire Farm item, available at most grocery stores including Stater Brothers in SoCal. I tried the Cincinnati version of the Cheese-filled Coneys and liked them very much. Sorry I don't remember if that was Goldstar or Skyline that was advertising them.

I know that the hot dogs Skyline uses are maufactured by Kahns at their plant in northern Kentucky. I assume they are very similar to what you buy in the Kahn's 10 dog vac packs at the store. I am not sure about Gold Star or the others. Good luck

They usually offer them a couple times a year. Since Hillshire Farm and Kahns are the same company, and Kahn's supplies Skyline's dogs, it was a natural tie in. Those buggers should come with defibrulators and a side of Lipitor though.

The dogs and buns are fairly unremarkable, serving only as a vessels upon which the chili rests They are smaller than average, as well

Find some of those smaller diameter footlongs and cut them up a little shorter than the buns you have. It's close .

At least it says so on their menus. Where did you hear that Skyline uses Kahn's

I believe Bluegrass is a division of Kahn's.

quote:Originally posted by Michael Hoffman I believe Bluegrass is a division of Kahn's. Blue Grass Quality Meats is completely independent from Kahn's. They were founded in 1867 and are only local to this area (Erlanger, KY), just across the river from good ole Cincy. When I buy hotdogs for myself, I buy Blue Grass. You can get them at any Kroger or Rempke around here.
