Have you ever seen one? If not, you should, they are tremendously exciting and eye opening, and authentic, the reenactors take their roles VERY, VERY seriously...Any reenactors out there?

I enjoy talking to them and many of them are deadly serious. If you want to really get an understanding of how they feel you shold read Confederates in the Attic by Tony Horwirz. [class=guideauthor]I had no idea how much of the lives of the reenactors are vested in doing this. Many of them are most passionate about what they are doing.

There's a political aspect to the American Civil War, the War of Northern Aggression, the War Between the States, and that could result in your post, and the entire thread, being summarily removed with absolutely no notification to you, even via private message..

Our spring and fall Rendezvous at Fort Crevecoeur Park (I am on the board of directors of the park) cover the period from 1680 (when Fort Crevecoeur was built) to about 1860. The reenactors (some are Native Americans) often spend hundreds of dollars on their personal clothing and their tipis (tepees) or lodges (tents). They are all very serious about being as authentic as they can be. We usually have black-powder shooting contests as part of the festivities.

I've seen a couple reenactments and enjoyed them. No Juneteenth celebration that I was able to find here in Portland.

If a thread that has spiraled into little more than it is political, it isn't, it is, it isn't...and it vanishes, you can pretty much figure it was deleted by the moderators. A local "historic village" doesn't re-enact the civil war, but they do play 1800's baseball games using old rules and equiptment.

Oh, I figured it was deleted by moderators. I do not understand, however, why it is not the practice, and requirement, of moderators here, as it is on those websites where I am a moderator, to privately inform the person whose post or thread is being removed from public view about the move and the reason for it. It's just common courtesy.

It's just common courtesy. When there is some unusual reason why a post is removed, and I think the person may be confused as to what happened, I do try to send a note. When the reason seems readily apparent I often do not. To be honest, having to deal with some of the petty back and forth of some of these situations it is a far better thing that I don't write what is on my mind when I am deleting some things.

As someone who has been in a real war I find this type of war-reenactment folly as a sick, stupid and disgusting preformance. The people that act this tragedy out in my view are nothing less then crackpot pretenders. "sickos" all dressed up in their phony uniforms pretending thay are Americans killing Americans.... how sick is that? The American Civil War is well documented in thousands of history book with plenty of photos depicting this disastrous event........ then why in Gods name do we need some crazies acting out the suffering and greatest loss of American life. Whats next? ... reenactment of the 9/11 tragedy when pretenders will build a replica of the twin towers out of 2x4's , blow them up and pretend 3000 American burn to death??? oooooooh wont that be fun to see........... and people that go to see this kind of thing have a screw loose. Below is a photo taken at the battle of Antietam The bloodiest day in U.S. military history where 26,000 men were killed or, wounded, All toll over 620,000 Americans died in our Civil War and today some dingbat is going to put on a fake uniform and for his enjoyment and that of the viewing spectators will pretend he just took a musket ball to the temple and fall to the ground just as these brave "real" American solders did so many years ago. ............ This is not a good thing.

Tony B I have a friend that plays for the Cincinnati Buckeyes, one of the oldest professional baseball teams. They have a bitter rivalry against the Redstockings of Cincinnati (precursor to the modern day Reds) There games are so fun to watch and be a part of. http://www.cincinnatibuckeyes.com/

Hello All, Reenactments can be educational to the public. My wife's nephew plays the bulge in Civil War reenactments and it is a way to show his talent and give honour to all that lost their lives in a sad moment of our history. I, personally, like to visit Yorktown, Va.. The Revolutionary War interests me more than the Civil War. Take Care, Fieldthistle

Fort Vancouver National Historic Site hosts 1860's rules baseball games twice each summer. They are always fun to watch.
