Clarksville, TN - BBQ Thu, 03/30/06 1:24 PM (permalink)
Wife and I will be in Clarksville the end of April. Did a quick search and see that there are quite a few Q joints. Anyone have favorites?

Thanks,

TnGuy

When you are downtown Clarksville, it is right on the edge of the Cumberland river. Very close to there, a bridge crosses the river and just across the bridge, there is a great catfish restaurant with great sides. I do not know the name but I have been there several times and it is good. Their sides were very good also.

I am not certain but I believe the "Mayor" may have been there.

      Paul,
It was the Riverview Restaurant. It was in Ashland City which is a little way up river from Clarksville (towards Nashville). We liked their Catfish. They had hour-long pontoon boat tours of the riverfront area during the summer evenings.

I don't know of any great bbq around there...wait! You're going to be near Knockum Hill in Herndon, Ky. Odd hours...great pork chop! Perhaps Al will post that pic. As you ordered, My Friend...AL

THere is a good steakhouse just across the state line in Oak Grove, Ky., called Charlie's.

Goin back to 87/88, but there was a place outside Ft Campbell off of 41A. Think it was called Larry's. Had a sign,"Will serve no swine before its time."

Was a little place, kinda out in the sticks. Don't know if it is still there or not. He made great Butt.

Pete...that is one heck of a pork chop. Looks like it would feed about 4 Cajuns. Don't remember where Herndon is, but will check it out on Streets & Trips.

Charlies Steakhouse has been there forever. I remember my Dad talking about coming to this area in the early 50's with the telephone company & being sent to the Hopkinsville area to run lines. Always said the best steak he ever had was at Charlies. Last time I was in the kitchen there they still cut their own steaks!

                John,
Knockem Hill BBQ is in Hearndon,KY a few miles off exit 86 of I-24 between Hopkinsville and Ft Campbell. It's kinda out-of-the-way! Pov.Pete says to be sure to check ahead for operating hours of the place as it is 'small' and the possibility of running out of the 'Chops' is real , if they get a lunch rush! There's a thread with more info about the place on the BBQ Forum.

Charlie's Steakhouse and Knockum Hill Bar-B-Q are separated by only a few miles. Both are south of Hopkinsville, Kentucky (maybe 7-10 miles), right on the Tennessee/Kentucky border.

Knockum Hill's hours are Friday (9-6) and Saturday (9-3 or whenever he runs out of pork chops.)
