Cleveland to Lexington KY Foodie Adventurers? Thu, 10/7/04 4:01 PM (permalink)
Hi Gang-

I'm road tripping from Cleveland to Lexington, KY. Does anyone have any ideas for great eats, farms, farmstands or other foodie adventurers along the way and/or in Lexington or Frankfort area? Would greatly appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks

A short distance off I-75 in Fairfield Ohio (just north of Cincinnati) is Jungle Jims Market. If you haven't been...you must try it once. International groceries wines beers produce hot sauces meats cheeses No place like it in the Mid-west. Plenty of snacking while you shop. Take the 275 west to RT 4 go north a couple of miles JJ's is on Rt 4 on the right side. Check their website at junglejims.com for more info.

I agree wholly with the Mayor. The most interesting place you'll see.
Also, any of the Skyline's along the way for chili or chili dog. The burrito is nothing special. Donato's Pizza not bad either.

Bushie and I visited Jungle Jims today. The first time I have been back since the new expansion opened up. It is an amazing place. I will have to wander it on a weekday when it isn't so busy to find where they have put all my favorites.
I heartily recommend a visit to this store for anyone in the Cincinnati area, or passing thru. It is a real fun stop.

          JJ's is a food museum.

In Lexington I'd recommend the Loudon Square buffet. All country cooking and delicious and all for $6. If yourin the mood for BBQ, Billy's is your best choice. And you gotta get the cheese grits.

Thanks for the Jungle Jim's suggestion. Went on Friday. All I can say is WOW. As a life long Clevelander how come I didn't know about this store? I am surprised the media has missed covering the best food store in Ohio and perhaps one of the best in the country. Does the Southern Ohio media give these guys any ink?

Another Success story for the Roadfood Recommendation Site !!
Maybe we ought to have a "gathering" at JJ's and see who can fill their cart with the most exotic yet useable roadfood materials??
