Well, the names have all changed since you hung around, But those dreams have remained and they've turned around.

Who'dve thought they'd lead ya? (Who'dve thought they'd lead ya?) Back here where we need ya? (Back here where we need ya?)

Yeah, we tease him a lot, Cuz we've got him on the spot. Welcome back.

Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back. Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.

....who'd've thought this double contraction qualifies as a word???

Nothing like recalling a show at first not run in Boston when it debuted in 1975 for fear that it would fan the flames of that city's already fiery busing issue. Sad.

(And I can say as much as a native Bostonian. There. There's your out-of-place social comment on RoadFood.com today. So ban me.)

Maybe it was the top secret nuclear weapons plant in the background that got it pullled !!!

Either that or the Mud puddle carp fisherman association had it pulled for using copyrighted material !!!

Either one .... not sure which !!!

                      T'wasn't me I di-di-didn't do it.

Hey 95er....Y'all may label me a Hoosier Hick, but that first level degree (B S Ed) says the Commonwealth of Mass.- Salem State '68, on it. I was a legislative intern in 65-67 in Boston (was there for the big '65 blackout) and met Mrs. Hicks at several committee hearings. Never would consider sending her a Mother's Day Card. And to keep this on a foodie-related topic,Stareing at a full color photo of LDH would be like sitting on a block of ice---"a real weinie shrinker".

Hey I see all the photo's...is there really one missing?

Please, Al, for the love of God, tell me that the "foodie-related topic" in the above sentence was the ice.

And by the way, Al, the only one that thinks you're a "Hoosier Hick" is seafarer john.

According to him, Hoosier Hicks -- along with left-handed people, people who take Claritin, Apple computer users, stamp collectors, people with septic tanks, SUV owners, speed readers, speed boat owners, diarists, sculptors, male theologians, expatriates, paralegals, mezzo sopranos, Germans, model railroad buffs, headband wearers, people with the letter "e" in their names, people who use prepositions at the end of sentences, people with P.O. boxes, insurance salesmen, anyone that has even stepped foot at anytime into Paramus, New Jersey, Discover card users, Alka Seltzer addicts, refugees, any former members of the of the 1974 Oakland Athletics, lactose-intolerant people, statesmen, Icelandics, people resembling Genghis Khan, arts & craftsmen, Beatles fans, John Edward supporters and Eskimos -- should never, ever, ever be bartenders.

                            FYI.

                                    Dave,
                                    A lifetime supply of beans.
Half-Bakedly, Ort. Carlton in Keen, Green Athens, Georgia.
                                    P. S. And easy access to The Durgin-Park.
                                    P. P. S. Plus easy access to even more terrific microbrews (and imports) than we get here in surprisingly-cosmopolitan ruralesque Georgia.
                                    P. P. P. S. Speaking of (pinto) beans, those were on the menu at The Normaltown Cafe today. My old friend Rod Pharr sauntered in, ordered up some on his lunch plate, and subsequently doused them with pepper vinegar (usually used on greens): "Cuts down on the... ahem... repercussions," he chuckled. I did likewise when I ordered up my food, letting Patrick's great fried okra absorb a little as well. Well, here it is over four hours later, and I'm nowhere near hungry again, plus there have been no gastric consequences. Does anyone else put something thus-and-so on pintos? - Next I have to try it on crowder peas and black eyes. (Gracious, do I ramble.)

As I was saying, when I was so rudely interrupted by a few keystrokes out of Boston; It is feminization that has brought the American Saloon to its present sad state. That, and a social/economic system that leaves our culture in ruins all around it.

But, just in case you have wondered at my recent absence from these disappearing pages, I must tell you that I have been traveling far and wide in search of a competent feminine bartender.

I went to Washington, DC (no free barfood there - this is a Republican administration) where I was betrayed to the members of NOW by a certain dimunitive Swede who uses his AlQuaida alais,
"i-95". I am not sure of all that happened to me at the hands of the NOW goons, but I do have a tattood image of Ann Coulter and "I love her" engraved on my forehead. (You did not misread- that says, my forehead).

I then went to Southern Indiana (You've never been to the real South 'till you've been there) where I was taken on a pub crawl by another fugitive living under an alias, which I will not disclose. Suffiice to say, he is a teacher of voodoo economics and graduated from the Harry Potter School of Salem U. I might have learned some of the curious customs of the saloon business in Indiana but we never were able to stay in any one place long enough to get a drink. When we entered my friend would loudly demand a "Redneck cocktail" for himself and , with a smarmy sneer, order a, "Martini for this little socialist altheist SOB I brung along". Next thing i knew we were out in the dusty street surrounded by dogs, pigs, and mules directing unfriendly noises at us.

On the thrid day, tired, dirty, battered, scarred, and wearing a yachting cap low over my eyes I found myself in a saloon in Mystic Ct. The place was all wood paneled, heavy old oak furniture, a grand old 19th century bar and backbar welcomed me and not a fern in sight. I studied the six taps and ordered an India Pale Ale from the very attractive young lady behind the bar. In short order an icy cold glass of ambrosia was set before me and the barmaid went about her business of mixing a Cosmopolitans for an elegant man sitting a few seats down the bar. I commented to my barmate about how nice it was to discover such a grand old saloon ,and a competent bartender.
It developd that my new friend was there in search of Cosmopolitan cocktail lore having recently lost in cyberspace (Poof", he said, "all gone ...") his "Cocktail query". We sardonically toasted cyber-hackers.
I went off to my lobster roll at Abbotts and he, I presume, is still insearch of cosmo lore.

OK. It can't only be me who sees peculiar similarities between the aforementioned tale and a similar, "alleged attack" occurring in San Francisco in April 1989 to none other than:

Of course, ol' Morton Downey, Jr. tripped himself up by writing a profanity on his forehead (trust me, it wasn't what Ann Coulter allegedly wrote above) whilst standing in front of a mirror resulting in the image appearing backwards on his actual forehead.

Regardless of these either eerie similarities or blatant plagiarism, kudos to seafarer john for actually identifying someone more misogynistic than him. Dead, mind you, but more misogynistic than he.

Anyone who has ever visited New Paltz knows we are"Cloud #9 , not any part of Hell. (Although I appreciate the Dante reference in light of the national leadership we are burdened with today.)

Walking down our Main Street and through the neighborhoods, one is
everywhere soothed with th sweet aroma of smoke, and it ain't from BBQ's ! The happy populace is at peace with the World, happy with it's dreams - dancing in the streets to the strains of a slow guitar is commonplace. We are known , enviously by our neighbors, as "Happy Valley"- we subsist on the bounty of our fertile soil, secure from the cares of a wider and more dangerous World. This is, indeed, the land of milk and honey envisioned in ancient texts.

Those, who by misfortune, are doomed to dwell in the fetid swamplands along the Potomac should have every reason to envy us
and make lame attempts to disparge our happy circumstance.
