Cocoa Village Hot Dog... (Thumann's--YES..In Florida!!)

Whilst en route to search for a job in the lovely downtown Cocoa Village, I saw a little ice cream shop that had several Thumann's Deli logo umbrella's in front of it..
WHAT?>>>>>>
Did I suddenly get transported to Jersey?...
What happened to me?..........
Something must have led me to this tiny ice cream/sandwich shop....
I had been wanting to try a Thumann's Hot dog for ages..
I kept reading about them on the Jersey hot dog thread for several years now.
I thought I was going to get some when I was living in Myrtle Beach,
as a co worker took regular trips back to his home in Jersey, but he kept forgetting to bring them back to me!
 
So... they offer deli style sandwiches, all with Thumann's Deli meats and the big boy weenie....
Ahhh...............................I HAD to break my budget and break down and get one.... $2.99,... pretty good price, and they come with a bag of chips, so it was a meal for sure.....
My first bite, and I was in love!...However, these are the JUMBO's...... and man,, One weenie is VERY filling , to say the least...

I love these dawg's.... The only thing is that it seems they use the sub rolls with a dual purpose.... I can understand that, but its really too much bread in addition to the dog.....
I cant wait until I get a job to go back and get another.  But if I get a job at the restaurant next door, I will be overdosing on them for sure!
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Cocoa Village is an area which is mostly shops, bars, restaurants, gift shops, clothing stores, and an eclectic mixed bag of hippies, shoppers, and sidewalk cafe coffee consumers......Just to give you a little background.. It is a small area of twisting one way tiny streets with art galleries and tattoo shops included.......It reminds me of a mini Pearl Street in Boulder Colorado, actually....They always have something going on such as art shows, live music, and all kinds of fun things.. It is right on the Indian River and a beautiful setting.

So they don't have like a wrap or another bread option for those dogs?  (I don't like the great big ones either.)  Looks good though.

Oh yeah.. they got different breads and wraps, but I like a bun/roll--
(you say tomato, I say tomahto??..LOL)
.. ... so I just pushed it to one end, and tore off the end bread part........

Thumann's in Florida. who would have thunk it? I'm with you on ditching part of the roll.

Did you have a chance to check out the Oleander Bakery ( http://euroamericanfoodcompany.com/ ) in Cocoa? It's owned by a Swiss couple & they make some good pastries.

There are many Thumann's hot dog styles...that doesn't look like a natural casing...and it's definately their small size. Try a jumbo, Natural casing Thumann's...DELICIOUS...and they'll hang out over that sub roll. Ask that place to get those!!! Just like you'll taste on many a Jersey Boardwalk...a lot like king Shickhaus.

It's also hard to tell from the picture if it's their all beef dog or their beef/pork dog. Both are quality products, but the beef and pork is exceptional.

Hope you snag a great job Tara.  Just remember what Yogi Berra said----when the going gets tough, the tough get going.  I'm sure you'll come smiling through.

Cocoa Beach looks like a fun place alright, too bad it is so far away. 

As for hot dog pictures, ya seen one ya seen 'em all.  Your word that they were good is all I needed. 

Looks good and what fun to just happen upon a place that has a food item you have been wanting...Cocoa Beach looks like a great place, good luck in the job journey!

Lee, I would venture to say, that the sub roll is 8 inches.. guessing the dog is 6..... they called it jumbo, but she said it was 1/4#, and not knowing the Thumann's sizing, I have no clue just which one it is..
It was filling enough, for sure though...

That hero bread is so wrong. The best commercial clone of a NJ hot dog roll I found in Florida is the Sara Lee Premium Gourmet White Hot Dogs Buns. Maybe you could talk to the shop owner.

Rossy has all the luck finding these dog stands...  Since I've been down to WPB all I found was 2 carts.

I ran into the same problem with a hotdog at a sub shop a few weeks ago.  They served it on a half of a sub roll.  Too much bread!

I love Thumann's hot dogs. In Dallas, I get the long ones in the natural casing.
I actually like them better than Sabrett! I never thought that would ever happen.

I so hardily agree.Twinwillow. Had a friend who worked at a Thumann's factory. Only dogs he'd eat. He said he knew what was in them and that was only quality stuff. I agree...best tasting dog...or at least solid tie with Shickhaus Natural Casing dogs!!
