Coconut Shrimp at Captain D's Mon, 11/5/07 1:04 PM (permalink)
I am a big fan of coconut shrimp and love the coconut shrimp at Outback and Red Lobster. I should have know better than to order it at Captain D's. I ordered the basket that came w/six shrimp and choice of side (I ordered a baked potato - good thing I did). I also added 3 extra shrimp for $1.98. Took it home and started eating the shrimp and ate 2 and fed the rest to my Sassy dog. She loved them, I hated them.

I know that all the other places that the shrimps are frozen, but this shrimp definitely tasted frozen. I shudder today at the taste and that was 4 days ago. Luckily my baked potato was pretty tasty and I enjoyed it.

[:DWe don't have any Capt.D's here in the San Antonio area. How's their other food?
We have Joe's Crab Shack.Their coconut shrimp is very good, but I noticed their prices have gone up,at least the one in the Alamo Quarry Marketplace has.

Red Lobster used to have some Langostine Nachos that were great.Langostines are a relative of the lobster i believe.

Not liking coconut I would never order them. I have tried specialty shrimp at CapD's before. A few years back they had an Italian shrimp that could have been decent,. The problem was in the shrimp. They used timy shrimp, probably 41-50's. They were just too small to enjoy.
Anyone trey LongLohns new "Monster shrimp"? The aren't much bigger than the batrer fried. The difference is breaded and too crunchy to enjoy properly. I remember the big shrinp they had a couple years ago(they gave one to "everyone in the country". I've never seen so long and skinny a shrimp.

Holly - the rest of the food is OK at Capt. D's. I like the fried shrimp, the chicken is OK and the shrimp is so-so. I like the idea that now you can order other sides besides french fries as I don't like their fries. They have pretty good baked potato and I really like their hushpuppies. They have a great pineapple cheesecake.

Red Lobster has really good coconut shrimp. We don't have a Joe's Crab Shack and I think the closest is in Nashville, TN (about 100 miles from here).
