fpczyz, what kind of espresso machine do you use? I have a dead Gaggia Coffee in my kitchenright now. I sorely want to replace it with a nice heat exchanger machine and a Mazzer Mini, but that is a lot of money just for coffee.

I agree with you, BT. In fact, I have to have my glass of iced sweet tea to get my day going ( even in the cold winter time) It is about 23 degrees here this morning and I am drinking iced sweet tea quote:Originally posted by BT Me, I much prefer iced tea (especially the sweet southern kind but any kind will do).

Frank, I get the shakes badly just reading your daily diet pattern! One cup of Coffee made 50% Milk and 45% sugar and 5% coffee is enough to keep me within short walking distance of the Men's Room for at least 3 or 4 hours. Funny, Cola beverages don't do that, Nor do Coffee Ice Cream or Shakes. (or White or Black Russians!). I'll sit with the Ice tea drinkers for now, Thank You!

Bluetick: I think a Barista from Starbucks is your best bet for a every day no frills perfect shot of espresso for the money. Starbucks now owns the Italian company that makes this wonderful machine. This is a small heavy all metal no plastic machine that for me has been working perfectly twice a day for over 8 years. I also have the crown prince of espresso machines ($ 900 bucks +) Pavoni that I use on Sunday mornings and when friends come over. This was the machine that really started the home espresso craze that's sweeping the coffee industry today. The Pavoni is a beautiful machine but will not deliver a shot as good as the Barista. BT ............... tea???? are you sure you were in the same Navy as I was?? and...... Al the Mayor has it ever occurred to you that it might be the 45% sugar and milk that's giving you the shakes?? ............... Drink it BLACK like a man.......... you wimp! ... lol your cola has more caffeine in it then a cup of Joe so it must be the sugar. Shape up Al re-election time is near... we wouldn't want a tea drinking lady at the helm now would we? This would be a good time to make a sly remark about Hilary but better judgment prevails... I'll save it for next year.

I just bowed out of my office coffee club. Not because I don't drink coffee, but I end up having a diet coke when I wake up, and another on the way to work. By that point, I don't get a caffeine kick until lunch time, but by then the coffee pot is empty and I'm too lazy to make a new pot. My next diet coke comes during (get this!) "coffee" break at about 3pm. I now try not having any more caffeine from when I leave work until the next morning. I think the evening diet coke was keeping me up too late. ...course, I still stay up late, so who knows.

When I wintered-over in Antarctica, I had my mom send me a large "Care package" of Lipton intant sweetened tea with lemon and I horded it for 8 months. The Navy did influence me in one way though. If I'm going to drink coffee at all, I prefer it very strong (as if it had been sitting in the pot a few hours as, in the navy, it often has). But just before I retired, that strong Navy coffee did me in--I ended up in the cardiac care unit with atrial fibrillation (a rhythm disturbance) and they never really found a cause but ultimately blamed it on the multiple double cafe mochas I'd drunk a few hours before. So these days, I have to opt for decaf--both coffee and tea.

Were you not saying that Diet Coke keeps you up? Perhaps wrongly, I assumed you were referring to the caffiene content which is avoidable, thus allowing you to have your preferred beverage and go to bed on time. Or am I missing something?

It's my preferred beverage BECAUSE of the caffeine. Diet coke: Caffeine, no sugar. Without the caffeine I prefer other beverages.

Our entire family makes several pots of Mellow Joy daily. We use the dark roast. I only make six cups at a time and yesterday we did it four times. We truly enjoy it. http://www.mellojoy.com/ Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Anyone who really loves coffee (not that there is anything wrong with tea or Pepsi) might want to consider roasting their own coffee beans. It can be done for next to nothing or you can spend 3 figures, your choice. I find 24 hour old roasted coffee beans to have flavor notes that you'll never find in store bought beans. The unroasted green beans however have quite a long shelf life. If anyone's interested, a great resource is http://www.sweetmarias.com/ Generally I use an inexpensive popcorn popper but I also have the Zach and Dani machine; with each having their strong points. BTW Bushie, I went to those sites and didn't find anything on true patriots. I did at http://www.moveon.org/

Have to have my java in the morning or I'm incoherent and have a splitting headache. My first choice is a large White Castle coffee with heavy cream obtained from the restaurant. Then I brew a pot of store-bought White Castle coffee at work. If I brew it as strong as I really like it, it's a little too bitter so I cut it with a scoop of Chock Full of Nuts and the outcome is really mellow. Paul, is Mellow Joy a regional brand or could I buy it in the Northern Kentucky area? It sounds great!
