Going on a leaf-peeping railroad excursion to Cold-Spring-On-Hudson soon. I've looked at the website for the village, and it lists several restaurants and cafes, but it's always tough to tell what's good and what's not from the internet.
Anyone ever been there? Any recommendations for a nice lunch? (Same goes for shops/boutiques, etc).
Thanks!

Mrs. Seafarer and her friends eat there now and then. i went once- it's a restaurant scene catering to the "ladies that lunch". Just make sure you get a good river view - it is really magnificent down in that area. Have fun leaf peeping. Today, as we drove up the Thruway from Newburgh to New Paltz, the trees were starting to look great - the next week looks to be the height of the season.

    Cheers, John

Well thanks, John. I suppose Mom and I will be "ladies that lunch" that day.
Will be making the drive from New Haven, CT to Albany (via Rt. 8, Rt. 20, NY thruway) this weekend, so I'm hoping for some great peeping, as well.
Our trip to Cold Sring isn't until the 23rd, and the leaves seem to be changing so fast, I hope we don't miss the "height" of peep-season.

Watch the drop in temperature as you get closer to the mountains.
I know where you are headed is south of where we were.
Heather and I and friends went to Tale of The Pup BBQ in Lake Placid/Saranac Lake from Vergennes,VT.
Started at 56 degrees in VT., dropped to 46 degrees by the time we got to Lake Placid.
Ate BBQ outdoors under propane heaters.
But the fall colors were terrific all weekend.

Sometime in the '70s I went to Lake Placid in the first week of June for a conference. It snowed for three days - nothing but slush underfoot . And, worst of all, I was a babe in the woods and had no idea what kind of conference it was - i was the only guy there without his girlfriend or his secretary...

          Cheers, John
