ColdTech

Probably a little late in asking this question as I just ordered one, but is anyone familiar with their freezers? They were $800 cheaper than True.

Don't know anything about ColdTech, but my experience with True has been uniformly dreadful.

That's too bad. Most everyone around here swears by them.

well, when i owned a gourmet shop, i had four of them, and swore AT them. maybe i just got some lemons.

what model was the the true freezer and how much was the asking price?

This was the freezer and it was 200 more when I was looking. Even after paying the shipping I still saved money.

where did you find the coldtech freezer? because i am looking for a up right single door freezer? looking for the best price.

I have a 12 cube True single door freezer and have had no problems with it except for a noisy grill flange.

If you don't need stainless steel try looking at Lowe's. I've looked at a 20 cube UL commercial rated Whirlpool upright. Off the floor price was under $600.

We have a Cold Tech split unit, freezer on top, fridge on the bottom and have been mostly satisfied with it. The defrost element in the freezer does not work as well as it should and we do have to manually defrost it in order to get a complete defrost. The other times it just partially defrosts, but all other functions work well. We also purchased a three door Continental reach in that we had to replace the compressor within 24 hours of install. It has worked well since, but that was not expected from a new unit. I think it may have gotten "dinged" in shipment.

I've always believed in buying the best I could afford. As my Granny used to say, "Cheap is cheap". Must have been an old Polish proverb.

Anyway, Traulsen is the way to go, if you can. I saw a beautiful one on sale the other day, floor sample, big enough to take full sheet pans, for about $1,800. But it'll never break down and you'll have it for years. There's a reason that Globe slicers, Hobart mixers, Vulcan/or/Garland/or/SouthBend stove, etc, are found in bigtime kitchens.

Which is not to say I haven't cooked, and cooked well, on an old no-name range I bought for $75 at an auction.

I don't know about where you guys are, but domestic reefers and freezers (and anything else, including sinks and prep tables) won't pass inspection up here, in most cases, unless they happen to have the NSF seal on them.
