Colorado Places - Pueblo
There dont seem to be many Coloradoan's contributing to the effort.
Having moved to Pueblo, CO from Hartford, CT, where I was a frequent visitor to many of the places listing here at Roadfood.com (especially Shady Glen, yum), I was disappointed to find an almost total lack of what I called 'Food Icons'. I asked co-workers, "what place around here is worth driving 50 miles for?"
Blank stares followed.
I got a couple, "well there used to be a guy....." answers, but that was about it.
I have figured out two places in Pueblo that deserve mentioning.
Gus's Place 1201 Elm St. is an 'icon'. The Dutch Lunch is the specialty. It is basically a sandwich platter for 2-3 people. Well worth visiting.
The other is the Pass Key Restaurant at 518 Abriendo. The specialty here is the sausage sandwich, which basically has enough cheese to cause even the strongest hearst to quiver.
Well, neither one is a Lena's First and Last, or a Ted's Steamed Cheesburgers, but they will have to do until my next trip home.
