Colts versus the Bears Thu, 02/1/07 4:56 PM (permalink)
The big game is coming up this weekend. I will definately watch. I have to be for the Colts as Peyton was at Tennessee for four years. A fine upstanding person. I know that many of you will be for the Bears. I really wonder what the score will be? The odds guys in Las Vegas believe a 7 point advantage to the Colts? I do not know about that??

I am in Houston and at the Residence Inn and by myself. I think I will have a few cocktails and perhaps some "Mayor" potstickers and enjoy the game.

I would appreciate it if some of you have an idea of the final score?

I will enjoy my cocktails with some of the snacks some of you have suggested.

Go COLTS!

I think it goes without saying, that most of Tennessee will be rooting for Payton Manning, hence, the Colts.
The line is seven, the early point spread was 6.5 and I took Colts to cover the 6.5. Since the point spread went up to 7, I'm feeling good about my pick. But, I think the odds makers did that on purpose to get a lot of us to wager early since the payout on a Colts cover isn't as much as a payout as a bears cover payout - and they knew we'd all go for the Colts at 6.5, where 7 isn't so easy to pick, since picking Colts mean that if they win by 7, you lose your bet. The higher numbers of people who picked at 6.5 means that odds makers are hoping that a close game means that all of us 6.5ers lose out on our early wagering to make up for the payout on a close loss or victory by the Bears. But since the payout on a the Colts covering isn't so much, risking the .5 point is financially worth it.

    Clear as mud, huh?

well, I'll simplify it...Go Colts! win by a lot!

PS I'm making my famous (buffalo) wings (recipe is somewhere in this forum), my $h!t dip (1 can condensed black bean soup, 16oz Salsa, 16oz velveeta or other such processed cheese - put in a bowl, microwave till warm, stir it all up. Looks like....tastes great!) and 7 layer mexican dip. (cream cheese, guacamole, cooked and spiced ground beef, tomatoes with cilantro, olives, lettuce and shreded cheese.)

I would like to wager but I do not know how to do so in Houston. I think I will just watch the game, have a cocktail, enjoy some potstickers and enjoy the game.

        Sundancer,

I am going back in to town tonight to play in an Omaha High poker tourney, the club haqs a sports bo0ok and a betting kiosk. If you want I can lay down a bet for you. Just tell me for and for what and for how much. Just don't tell be you want to lay off 10 g's or something like that as I think the RICO statutes might cover that kind of transaction. We can work out the financialdetails after the game.

        Let me know.

I cannot with good conscience wish anything remotely related to the state of Indiana well (other than our own Mayor and his lovely wife, who I truly like, and are the one saving grace about the state that I've found thus far).

Bears it is. I was really hoping to see them play the Pats, but I'll cope. Makes it easier to decide who I want to see take the trophy, anyway. I can't stand the Colts, no matter who plays for them or where he's from.

I'll have to put in my 8-10 hours Sunday morning, so I might miss the first quarter, but after that I'll be ensconced with several adult beverages and Chinese food made by my chef friend. May the best team win (which will be the Bears, I'm sure ). Hopefully it'll be a close game, those are more fun to watch.

Apparently you didn't go to a very classy high school. And as my spelling indicates I didn't attend a very good one. "the club has a sports book and a betting kiosk"

I'll take the Colts. Ole Miss fan & I'll have to pull for Archie's boy - even if he did play for TN.

If you're ever in Philadelphia, MS drop by Peyton's grandparent's store - William's Bro. It's 100 years old & still slices bacon to order. You can buy hoop cheese, horse collars, stick peppermint, tennis shoes, bacon & tons of other things. His grandparents are both deceased, but it's still run by the Williams family. Lots of pictures of Cooper, Peyton & Eli.

It is a tough call. I am rooting for the Colts but I think the Bears will win 24-21. And I am about as certain as can be that the Bears will cover.

Voting Colts here, by either a FG or TD... Not sure yet, but leaning TD.

I am going to say 28-24 Colts. Coincidentally, those numbers correspond to the numbers I have in the office block poll. Imagine that!

Colts in a blow out, about 34-10. The Bears secondary is the weakest link of their defense, with Mike Brown injured, even more vulnerable, and Bob Sanders return to the Colts d has seen the resurgence of stopping the run. Manning will expose the Bears corners, and Grossman makes an early int deep in their own territory. The Bears are not built to play with a deficit, the Seahawks playoff game notwithstanding. The Colts, conversely, can play from ahead or behind. This will not be a good game, and might be over at the half.

                                Hello All,
I've gotta work during the game, but let it be the Bears.
Actually, I don't care, but when I was growing up I listened
to some great AM radio stations out of Chicago, so I like
                                Chicago for that reason.
Also, I live in Tuscaloosa, Al. when Manning was at Tennessee,
and for the past Crimson Tide teams, I root against Manning.
                                Very childish, am I.
It's just a game, but I bet it'll be a great game, even if I
miss it. Bears 38, Colts 34.
(Have resisted mightly saying, da bears)
                                Take Care,

I'm rooting for the Indianapolis Colts but not because of my mini pork tenderloin sandwich appetizers or because I am originally from Indianapolis. I still slip to this day and call them the Baltimore Colts. I was a Johnny Unitas fan and a Cleveland Browns fan growing up. The Colts did not come until long after I left Indianapolis. The real reason is when growing up in Indianapolis all we could get were Bears games on TV and I grew to dread that especially when I would have rather watched the Browns or Colts. I preferred Raymond Berry to Harlon Hill. So I imprinted anti-Bears. Moving to Minnesota and supporting the Vikings only cemented that feeling. Besides all that, it would be travesty of justice and humanity if Rex Grossman gets a Super Bowl ring over Peyton Manning. If the Bears were playing anyone else I would be for them.

Amen to that. With all respect to the rest of the team, grossman MIGHT be the worst qb to ever make it to the SB imo.

Bears 30 (3 TD's & 3 FG's) Baltinapolis Colts 20 (2 TD's & 2 FG's) thereby covering all spreads. I beleive the true contest will center around the buffet table jockeying where, contrary to those that do not believe that sports, food and celebration can coexist, I plan to demonstrate All-Pro abilities. I am a Colts fan but I have to tell you, I enjoyed the Bears that season. I loved the shuffle. They went to H--- in a handbasket after that.

Peyton is a Tennessee dude. I enjoyed him then and I enjoy him now. I appreciate the fact that he could have gone pro his junior year and stayed for the forth year. He has got a head on his shoulders.

I do not know how the game will turn out. Most folks feel that the Colts will win but you never know. It is a game of skill, luck and many other things.

I haven't checked any records to back this up but I think Kurt Warner might be the only QB with less regular season experience prior to his first Super Bowl, and he at least played regularly in the Arena League before joining the Rams. Grossman possesses the skills to become a premier QB but is still going through his NFL growing pains, as any Bears fan can attest. I wonder if antacid sales records were set in Chicago last year.

All I know is we are planning a big spread for the festivities.... It's a game, and that's all it is.

Off the wall.... The Bears will win, my choice.... been a Bears fan since 1970.... won't change after all these years, even thou I am living in Tennessee right now myself.....

As for manning.... he should of signed with the Oilers... I mean Titans when he had a chance if he was a true Tennessean.

I have lived in Indy for 31 years and have never seen anything like this. We are all Colts crazy and love our team. I know every city thinks their team is the best, but the Colts are such a class act, from Tony Dungy on down.

I have a bet with a fellow roadfooder. If I lose, I got to pay off with a Benton's Ham out of Madisonville, TN. If I win I get a half dozen lobsters. I had to give 7 points. I should have negotiated for 6.5.

I think it will be a great matchup and frankly, I am rooting for both teams! From a QB standpoint, I do think Peyton "deserves?" to finally win one, the guy is a phoenominal talent and a great leader. Rex so far has just been part of the team.

Davydd, I also have great memories of both teams way back when. My Dad was a huge Jonny U. fan, even down to the flat-top. But, I was always facinated by Gale Sayers and his style of running. I could watch highlights of him for hours.

Got to meet Sayers a few years back at a Chicago Days street party in Mesa. Unfortunately he wasn't as friendly a person as I had always imagined him to be.
