Columbia, SC Barbeque Reviews Thu, 02/16/06 5:17 PM (permalink)
There are a few good woodburners in the Columbia area and two spots right in town that have decent roast pork (no smoke) if you're really jonesing for pig.

Would love to hear other opinions.

Real Deal:

Little Pigs on Alpine Road has the real thing. Nice buffet. Pay, go down the line, but walk past the pulled pork. Turn around 180 degrees and find the pickin' station. That's where the extra good meat is.

Hudson's Smokehouse on 378 between Columbia and Lexington has real smoked barbeque. Pretty good. NO HUSHPUPPIES! And no inside dining... But worth the trip.

The Boar's Nest outside of Irmo is new. Great setup. Smoked pulled pork with a nice flavor. Good buffet. 'Pups are good, AND they include a brownie on the line. Definitely a must-try. Mmm.

Pseudo-Que:

Palmetto Pig off Huger Street has a reasonable buffet and good food, but no smoke. Also, their hash is very tomato-ee, which I don't care for.

Bo Pigs is across the river on Knox Abbott Drive. Similar to above except I like their hash and sides better. Excellent fish stew not always available.
