Columbus, OH is getting a Culver's

I read in the local paper yesterday that we are going to be getting a Culver's soon. I've read some good things about them here in various threads. I am looking forward to trying a butterburger. For those that have been there, are there any recommendations about the best toppings?

I read that, too. There might be a review of the Butterburger here somewhere.

Yeah I didn't see a review though there is a great picture of a butteburger at one of places reviewed in Wisconsin. I found Culver's mentioned a lot in the forums, but mainly for the custard. Don't get me wrong, I like ice cream, but I love hamburgers and the whole idea of one with butter on it definitely sounds appetizing to me.

Their burgers are good, their dairy is good, and they serve crinkle-cut fries, which I've loved since I was a kid. They also have a signature root beer that is good.

The only other thing I've eaten there is the pork tenderloin, which is NOT that good, IMHO.

We have one in nearby Corydon, Indiana. The burgers are good, but a bit lite on the meat in the single version. Minimum size for me is a Double Bacon Cheese...and you can jumbo that to get an additional patti of burger. If you are a 'large' burger consumer I recommend the extra. Even my wife goes for the Double. Plenty of choices of the traditional toppings. Our favorite sandwich at Culver's is the Patti Melt. They do a good job with it.Skip the Pork Tendrloin and the Ribeye steak sandwiches...not much to say except they are strictly 3rd rate.
The Custard is great, and as Bushie says, they have their own Root Beer, which is quite good also. They have recently added a WALLEYE dinner and a Sandwich. I have no basis to judge Walleye quality, so will rely on one of you folks to try and report on how good it is (or isn't).

Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to trying it. I will definitely not be getting a tenderloin as I grew up in southern Indiana and I do not risk getting one outside of my hometown area. Heck, we even had pretty good tenderloins in the school cafeterias.

Mr. Mayor, I was in Culver's a week or two ago to get a big root beer. I noticed the Walleye offering; they serve it here, too.

Since Walleye is one of my two favorite fish to eat, I probably could give a fair review. However, I'm quite skeptical of Culver's version, so I wasn't interested in buying a sandwich. Maybe I'll do it now that you've brought it up, but I'd be more than happy to let someone else take the lead.

I can't help wondering whether they'll call it walleye when they open here in Ohio. Most places here call it pickerel. One of the reasons is that the walleye sold in Ohio comes from Canada and that's what they call walleye in Canada. Another reason for calling walleye pickerel in Ohio restaurants if that it's illegal to sell walleye caught from Ohio waters.

That reminds me of the various names for the saltwater fish known on the east coast as Dolphin...On the west coast and Baja as the Dorado and the Hawaiian version is the Mahi-Mahi. Makes it harder to identify what it is that you order, for sure.

Ohio considers the walleye a sport fish. Back in the late 1970s or early 1980s, I can't recall for sure, the state banned commercial fishing for walleye in Ohio waters, buying up the commercial walleye licenses of those who had them. Just as federal law prohibits the sale of sport-caught black bass, Ohio law prohibits the sale of walleyes caught in Ohio waters.

Whenever I see dorado or mahi mahi on a menu I order, "the dolphin please, sauteed in butter and lemon. It almost always brings a quizzical look to the waitperson's face, which gives me a teaching opportunity.

Culvers chain originates in Wisconsin where walleye is very popular.
