I enjoyed reading this . I have eaten at the clam shack place in Stonington a few times. Their clams and clam chowder were out of this world. Everytime that we visited firends in Stonington , this place was on our agenda.

I'm from Connecticut, and I'd never heard of The Counter. I've certainly been to a number of the places mentioned, with Danny's being a treasured kidhood memory.

I'm here on the West Coast and I can walk to The Counter.

You must have extraordinarily long legs. EDIT: I offer my humble apology for my smarta$$ remark. Chris has brought tomy attention the fact that The Counter is a chain and does, indeed, have one to which you can walk on standard length legs.

Michael, I wrote this RFD post on The Counter awhile back. Though it's on the pricey side, the burger is really great -- and those fried onion straws are amazing. For chili dogs in the article, however, Orangeside Luncheonette in New Haven can't be beat, plus they make their own donuts! Nuts, I've gotta finish my review and get the word out... Chris

Chris, I somehow missed your report on The Counter. I shall now have to apologize to mar52 for my remark. I notice that there are two Orangeside Luncheonettes -- the one on Orange Street near Chapel in downtown New Haven, and another on New Haven Avenue in Orange.

Another apology needed. My legs are much more than standard. If eating at The Counter, if you don't like raw (blue) meat... order your burger medium.

I don't know what came over me to cause me to refer to your legs as merely standard length. But I do humbly apologize. I should have realized that any person of the female persuasion living in Southern California would never be equipped with anything standard.
