Consumable/Disposable Supplies Wed, 06/24/09 10:10 AM (permalink)
Well, I'm working on lining up akk the items one needs to run a high-class cart.  As I am new to this, I always look for help from the experienced ones.  For instance:

Napkins or Paper Towels ?

Disposable wrapped knife/fork packs ?

Hot Dog Boats, 1 size or 2 ?

The best size squeeze bottles...??

Self-serve condiments ?

I am going to be doing the Chicago/New York/and 1 chili-type dogs.

Thanks in advance,

curtis

I have a good line on where to get the stuff.  I was wondering how most transactions are served.  Fluted paper hot dog boat.......just laid in a foil sheet....................2-3 dogs in a #300 paper boat........things like that.  I have a spreadsheet where I try to plug in all the items I have to put together from the time a customer orders, until I hand it to them and say thanks.  I know wieners/buns/condiments are a given, but when the customer requests a boat, a wrapped utensil set, and extra napkins, that cost has to be plugged in somewhere.

      What do ya'll do ???

Now how do want to approach the cost is what you are asking. figure everything in total cost.
I don't know if your customers will eat at the cart or not. I have customers that unless it is about 98 or higher will eat at the cart and the ladies take with them. Paperbags, boats, wraps, paper sheets,
whatever. I only offer sporks and the cost is a pennie apiece. Buy 10K lots. Chili cheese dogs demand it. Seems like alot, but if good will be ordering more than you think in a year.
I use food service companies , not worth my time to go chasing all over, I live in the boonies and when I have compenies that deliver for less than a nickle an item cost to me than food warehouses that are a min. of 45 miles. I take the delivery. My Time is valuable to me.
I have the freezer space for eveything I need.

I can understand that.  I reckon' what I'll have to do is start out with everything, but not necessarily push it.  Hand 'em a dog in foil and see what happens.

What I should say is everything I do different.LOL Events boats, lunch is bags , boats, wraps have a few prefer waxed paper. Napkins can get overwhelming. Always have two or three full other than normal 2 dispensers.  so I don't have to stop and fill.

The foodservice houses are always an option, as well as the warehouse type places like Sam's Club etc. Another option is janitorial supply/paper supply businesses. Almost all of them carry disposables and have a wide variety at competitive prices. They are worth checking out and most will deliver also.
