Acevado's Market at Slover & Live Oak in South Fontana. Tiny little store that sells liquor and the usual convenience items, it's been been a neighborhood store (under various names) since the thirties at least, maybe even before that. They have a small kitchen in back that turns out some of the best burritos in the area. The green chile with pork will burn you a new one, but DAYUM it's good. Same goes for the asada and the carnitas. They make their own tortillas. It's so close I can walk there.

That is similar to Babka -Hawaiian - Panettone. What is called Portuguese roll in this area is not the same as Massa Sovada outside of finding way to a very ethnic Portuguese bakery....that would have Massa Sovada in roll form.

Of course, I just LOVE Wawa (Gotta Hava Wawa!), but if I take a drive along Virginia's Eastern Shore and thereabouts, Royal Farms is really good. Not only do they have Wawa-grade coffee (the BEST!), but they also have chicken and great potato wedges there, along with other foods. And you can get gas (in your car lol), just like at the newer Wawas. http://www.royalfarms.com/

I would trade-in my Quick Chek muffin (and Fruit Punch Gatorade) for Acevedo's.

I don't think I've ever been to a convenience store that had food I thought was good. Damn Mid-West.

Most of the new convenience stores in my area are big brightly lit, and have lots of gas pumps.Sheetz,Wawa, Turkey Hill, Royal Farms and Rutters all are nice and generally have the cheapest gas. When I travel I realize we have more nice c-stores in our than most folks do in other parts of the country. That being said, I wouldnt say any of them have great food and at lunch time they aren't that convenient because they get very busy. I do often stop for a coffee or soda in the morning though.

I have traveled to all 50 states and in my opinion, WAWA is the best I have ever visited. At least their newer stores. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Several weeks ago I had to attend a managers food safety class for certification. The person conducting the class stated that Quik Trip's food services were some of the safest and cleanest around. If a QT gets a violation, it's usually due to a mechanical problem, not a food safety issue. The managers at QT are trained in food handling safety on the corporate level and by the health department, so they have double training. I've never eaten any QT food, but according to the class leader, you can be pretty sure it's safe to eat! Not a chain, there is a convenience store in KC that has a little Middle Eastern cafe called Papu's. Great schwarma, falafel and gyros. Lottery tickets, too. :)

We used to have White Hen Pantry around the Chicago area that made some pretty good deli sandwiches. You could either pick a premade one from a case (made within a few hours) or get one fresh made to order. They also carried potato and other kinds of salads that they made on site as well as the usual convenience store itmes. They were all bought out by Seven Eleven and I haven't been in one since.

Oh, yes, White Hen Pantry! I remember those. Sad to know they no longer exist. Didn't they also serve fried chicken, or am I thinking of another convenience store in northern Illinois?

I noticed over the last few weeks that Quiktrip in the Kansas City area has been offering take-and-bake meals (e.g., pizza, lasagne, etc.). I have not tried any of them, and don't know that I ever will, but they look as good as the ones you could find at a supermarket that does the same thing.

Around this part of Florida none would qualify. Absolutely a terrible selection. 7-11 is the best of a very bad lot.

7-11 was my favorite until they closed the ones in my area. Quick Chek has moved in and now my favorite. Stewarts Shops out of Saratoga, NY is my 2nd, they have the best dairy prices around!
