What sucks is the place close to me that I enjoy in Richmond, pretty much has fried chicken for like an hour or two and then it's all gone and they don't make anymore. When the craving hits, that hour or two has came and went.

The Bon Ton Mini Mart in Henderson, KY started out as a convenience store and makes amazingly good fried chicken!

You are both wise and of good taste! Some of the best these days indeed! I run across a clunker(clucker) every now and again but most do it up pretty good. If there's a woman over forty doing the frying I've yet to be disappointed

I've got regular places along my little routes I drive around doing my little things.
There's a shell station in Williamstown Ky right off I-75 that has fried chicken worth driving twenty winding miles just for the chicken itself!
Ten miles up another has a Chesters BP that has never failed to be fresh. Eight miles down another road and yet one more box of chicken and a fill up if you please.

I know a bunch of gas station chicken joints and for some odd reason the best of the best places, for me in my experience, involves crossing bridges. I'm serious!
An odd observation but true none the less. I believe history will prove me out in the end.

Maybe I should rethink my position on C-store chicken. I gave up on it a long time ago. But, then again, most C-stores I see selling chicken are selling the broasted chicken which I don't care for. I guess you have to find places that use their own recipes.

You folks are so lucky. Around here our convience stores only carry crummy donuts and danish in individual pakages under a heat lamp. Once in awhile you run across a place with hot dogs? on a roller grill about 14/1 size. My dog likes them though. Chow Jim

    To all:

Around the Baltimore Area there is a small chain(I know a dirty word) of convenience store/gas stations called "Royal Farm Stores". They not only have great fried chicken but they also have gizzards and livers, plus their potato wedges are outstanding. I think the cooks are all over 40.

I second the recommendation by BuffetBuster on the Bon Ton Mini-Mart down in Henderson,KY. Their chicken is VERY GOOD, but you have to be there when it's ready or it will be gone !
Louis introduced it to us a couple of years ago when he brought a take-out order to the W C Handy Blues Festival to share with us. It (and the Music) was outstanding.

We have Bohannen's Chevron that does the "broasted" chicken, they also fry up livers, gizzards and pork chops. We also have another gas station that persons of Indian decent bought, but "Miss Mary" who has fried chicken there for YEARS remained on staff. This is "Chester Fried". It's excellent, and inexpensive. You get two pieces with 3 tater wedges and a roll for $2.89. She drops the first batch as 10:30a so I like to get there at 11a, it's so yummy!

There is a BP station in St Paul, Indiana (small one horse town) that serves awesome fried chicken, the little old lady that makes it is awesome she must be older than the trees but younger than the dirt, but that fried chicken is awesome.

Sometimes it's great but once in a great while it's an afternoon of stopping every forty five minutes to commune w/ nature. Once had a NC Highway Patrolman stop to ask me if I was all right...he thought I was drunk... while I threw my guts up on the side of I-40. He saw what was coming up and just asked where I had bougtht the chicken so it wouldn't happen to a NCHP officer.

There are fried chicken places inside the Fiesta stores in Houston. I truly enjoy their fried chicken and sides. Clean, hot, fresh and the sides are very good.

In my experience, most of the convenience store and gas station fried chicken is a form of pressure fried chicken, which I've generally found to be great, but when fresh and hot only. There is the "Chester-Fried," Broaster Co. "Broasted Chicken," and various and numerous other kinds. While some do, most do not use their own recipes and coatings, except I imagine over time many add ingredients to reflect their local tastes to make them a little more unique. My favorite -- when done right -- is the golden brown, crispy, juicy, Broaster Co. "Broasted Chicken." I just had some last Saturday and the white breast meat was as juicy and tasty as the dark meat, which is hard to do when it's not pressure fried. But I do enjoy variety and absolutely love good fried chicken whether it's pan fried, deep fried, pressure fried or otherwise.

I passed a lot of Chester Fried places on interstate today in Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma located in convenience stores. I had to stop for gas, got a couple of thighs to go, made a mess while traveling and they were good, hot, fresh and tasty.

Yup, Chester fried chicken is pretty decent chicken. Our BP stations are the main purveyors of it here also. Actually our BP's have a decent deli section overall with meats and cheeses(Cabots) availiable by the pound and tasty subs.

Here in Carrizozo the Allsups(conv.chain) has good fried chicken. Cooked in a pressure system. I call ahead and order(FRESH), go pick up my order in 25 minutes. Tasty!
