A report on a book I just picked up: Cookout USA by Chronicle Books - a page for each state in US, some 1940's travel brochure pix, and a recipe.

For example:

Arizona: Mesquite Grilled Chicken
Delaware:Apricot Duck Kabob
Florida: Grilled Grouper with Lime
Georgia: Grilled Vidalia Onions
Mass: Smoked Turkey
NY: Spiedies
RI: Grilled Pizza
WA: Planked Salmon

OK - so what would you nominate for your state??

No offense NYMN but I believe we've already done something VERY similar to this. I'm sure one of our knowledgeable posters(not techy challanged)will give the link.

It was a general food items from each state, we ended up with a great list...I'll have to dig it up.

I think it would be interesting to see what BBQ/Grill items are peculiar to each state........

Here is the one I did on general food items:

          http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17254&SearchTerms=state+dish

And one someone did on OFFICIAL state dishes

          http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1191&SearchTerms=state,food

I think it is a worthy topic. What state, for example, takes credit for Pulled pork? Beef Short Ribs? Beer Can Chicken? Smoked Armadillo?

Texas it would be Sushi. It's just too darn hot to light the pit this time of year.

I have this book as well and enjoyed reading it. I'm pretty sure the Wisconsin recipe involves bratwurst...

HAHAHA... texans dont eat sushi! You must be in a major city. I'm just outside of Houston so I can get great sushi, but I'm also from Ca where I learned to appreciate it. Head down to Tyler and ask for sushi and you'll get raw catfish!
                  California ~ tri-tip for sure
Texas ~ anything cooked slow with alot of bbq sauce.
