Their location in Cookeville, TN closed too. It only lasted a few months but I think it may have been an issue with the lease.

In this case, from my experience trying it over the years, it had slid way down hill.

Smokey Bones next door survives, as do dozens of other national chains.

Sad. I hate to see any restaurant close. I used to go to the one in Metarie, LA. and it was fine with me, but that was over 6 years ago.
I do send their ribs/gift pack to my family every Christmas.

I live in the home of Corkys. All the locals here will tell you that their brand of barbecue is the worst in the city. But that may be because there is some much to choose from here.

When my friend and his wife went to Memphis a couple of years back, I told them NOT to go to Corky's. I gave them about 3 or 4 places to go to. Well, guess where they went.....They said "everyone" told them to go there. They liked it, but they don't know any better anyway.

Corky's is great BBQ.I spent four days in Memphis and had lunch and dinner at different places but a all excellent BBQ. The Corky's buffet at Sams Town Tunica is worth a trip itself. Everyone who likes BBQ has to see how many places Memphis,KC,and Lockhardt/Austin you can enjoy.

Yikes...maybe the memphis location has all the good bbq then. I've eaten at the Pigeon Forge location 4 times, hoping and wishing that the last time I was there was just a bad day. No such luck. Never had good meal.

I've had bbq at the Rendezvous, Corky's, Interstate, Cozy Corner, Neely's and Paynes. All in Memphis. Corky's was my least favorite

I am guessing but I think Corky's franchise side is poorly run. Knoxville's location closed as did Springfield, MO's

Meanwhile, the next day at Harold's

... I had the combo platter ... too much pork, pork ribs and brisket ... and slaw, and chips, and stew and cornbread to eat. I finished it up. I'd only had the pork before. Ribs and beef were superb as well.

Time for my nap. Too bad I'm at the gate waiting for my next flight.

                        Greg:

What Corky's location do you have pictured I have never tried them.

The Harold's crowded lot doesn't surprise me. I grew up with the family. Still as good as ever. In ALL the years, though I have never tried the ribs. Were they really that good I usually feel it's hard getting your $$$ worth with them, but would be willing to give Harold's a shot with them.

Still the best Brunswick Stew I have found, especially when combined with the lost art of true, pan cornbread. Ya just don't see it too much anymore.

                        Nice report!

Sorry, but of all my BBQ travels, Corky's is one of my least memorable. Not a bad meal but certainly no Harold's, Rendezvous or Interstate. Personally, I have no problem seeing them close their doors. No room for mediocracy in my book.

I like Corky's downtown location and the 1 on I-40 just East of town is good but the rest, including Tunica is sub-par IMHO.

When in Memphis I like Tom's BBQ on Getwell.

ULVER ... The Corky's location pictured is in Gwinett, up by the Marriott. I'd been there once and it was insipid at best. When in the area, go to Buford and eat at Dillard's on Buford Pike (IMO) ...

Harold's was/is always awesome. This was my first time with the ribs ... you always get your money's worth there.

I got to hit Dinosaur in Syracuse the next day in my travels. Close, but the award goes to Harold's.

My wife and I have eaten at this particular Corky's several times. The first time we both enjoyed our meal. The last time she and I decided we didn't need to go back.

We have a Corky's here in Huntsville, AL, but it didn't last long. Probably becaus folks here love our Gibson's and Greenbrier style BBQ. We are lucky enough to have Dreamland here too.

I recently purchased a rack of pre-packaged Corky's ribs at Sam's club. Brought them home and slapped it on the grill for about 20 minutes.

This was a better tasting rib then I've had at the two locations I've visited.

                                    Go figure.
