The Mayor has talked for years about Costco and now they are finally coming to Knoxville. I am excited as I have heard about their food, quality and cost. They are expected to start construction in June. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Paul, When they open you can take a look around without buying the membership. I suggest that, then consider how much you would use the membership vs what you spend at the regular markets. The regular membership is $50 /year and the business membership is $100. While we tend to be small consumers, the Business membership offers a cash rebate on purchases, and we have found that we spend enough to get an annual check of well over $200 which not only covers the membership fee, but is a nice spending boost for some of the experimenting we do with Costco Food products.

Here the marked price is for business card holders. I think the regular members pay a percentage higher. Costco shopping is easier if you have someone with whom you could split some of the purchases. Otherwise you throw away your savings in spoilage.

We don't shop at Sam's so I doubt we will be shopping at Costco. I do wish they had picked a location that was already not so congested. The Turkey Creek area of Farragut is really going to be a mess, if it wasn't already.

Unfortunately the Costco that is opening in Knoxville is about 25 miles from where I reside. I doubt that I will frequent it very often although I was excited about their expansion, it will be too far for me to drive to make economic sense. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

The Louisville store is 31 miles away from us. We visit once or sometimes twice a month, compiling a list of items to search for on each visit. I usually time the trip to a point where I need gas for the truck and a couple of 5 gallon Mower-gas cans too. Costco gas "AT TIMES" can be up to 25 cents a gallon cheaper than surrounding stations...but not always, so we check prices on our way to the store.

Wow, I had not heard about Costco coming. I may want to check it out but shopping at those kind of places is not my cup of tea.
