Cottage Inn Pizza

I can't believe Cottage Inn pizza isn't on here.  Not only was it the first pizza place to open in Ann Arbor Michigan in 1948, they've now got gluten free options and probably the best gourmet pizza I have ever had.  If you haven't tried it, get to Michigan or Ohio and do so immediately!!

Funny, I just looked at their menu and didn't spot anything that comes close to even possibly being called a gourmet pizza.

    There-

You just chased away a first time poster who had something constructive to contribute
and would have been a valuable member to the Roadfood community
How do all expect to get "new blood" on the forum when you all immediately dismiss them with snarky remarks and comments
You should all be ashamed of yourselvesd

(the above comment comprises 100% sarcasm and should not be take seriously in any way, shape or form)

Wanderingjew. You a prefectly correct. Thank you for speaking up.  Mr. Hoffman's snarky as well as condescending comments towards others has gone on for much too long on this forum He is the primary reason, why I have gone from a daily visitor of this site, to maybe checking in once every few months.

I spoke up once before. Nothing was ever done. Other than one of his sanrky comments towards me.  He continues to drive members away from this forum.  In fact he could not let up. Going after the OP yet once again in the thread.

This used to be a fun place to visit. Very warm and welcoming.  Mr. Hoffman single handedly has turned it into a very unfriendly forum.

See you all again in another six months or so.

At least the place exists; in fact, it is a small chain.

"Gourmet" is in the eye and on the tongue of the beholder/eater.  Their square Hawaiian pie looks pretty damned tasty to me!

If all of us who post here only (and always) said 'positive things' it would be a pretty boring place to visit.

Spirited opinions, colorfully expressed, about all manner of foods are an integral part of the 'fun' here.

Even though Mr. Hoffman can be - by his own admission - a bit 'curmudgeonly', please be patient.  You will, sooner or later, come to appreciate Mr. Hoffman as being a prime contributer to the fun and fellowship we enjoy here.

My post was not directed at MH and was pure unadulterated sarcasm.
I posted it for two reasons

The OP was clearly trying to hawk his business. Which was clearly obvious based on a first time post from someone who was completely amazed that anextremely obscure restaurant that no one has even heard of would have been visited by Jane and Michael Stern and subsequently reviewed on roadfood

The other reason was because of another poster who shall not be named that will defend spammers on the website, flag those that respond sarcastically to the spammers and then pose answers to the spammers as though they are legitimate posters

(notice how I refer to them as "posters" and not "roadfooders")

I have my suspicions, but I do not know if the author of this thread was a 'spammer'.  He might just love Cottage Inn's pizza.  As a 'newbie' I could well have started similar threads (but not in such few words, of course) about such local chains as Ledo's in DC Metro, Inner Circle in Youngstown, or Grotto in Rehoboth/Dewey.  (They ain't gourmet, but they are all damn tasty!).

Here is the first thread I posted to (post #12) after having read about Roadfood in the Dallas Morning News.  Frankly, the harsh responses to dutchgirl's post #2 gave me a little pause about dipping my toe into this pool.  And, I believe the unwelcoming responses to her heart-felt, gushing, but accurate review drove her off.

And that's a damn shame; here is her first thread: a well-written, illustrated 'Trip Report'

So, unless someone is selling a British Kitchen or Canadian Viagra I'm keeping "the flag" in my pocket and the "Welcome Mat" down.

Not as spammer, but definitely a "shill" post.
I can understand "with great suspicion" that someone may decide to post their first comment on a place that they like and that may be but on the other hand to start out with "I can't believe......is not on here" is not only flat out absurd but delusional...

Even though I agree that the originator of this thread is most likely - (O.K., hell, almost certainly is) - a shill I still think we ought to wait for a second or third post before "piling on".

The enthusiastic dutchgirl was falsely accused of being a shill and was driven off.  And that's a shame.  I think we all would agree that Roadfood is in need of fresh meat for the grinder.  My preference is simply that we wait a bit before turning the handle.

As a U of M grad, I can fully attest that the reputation that the original poster gave to Cottage Inn pizza is one that most U of M students will agree with. I live in Denver now and the alumni chapter is having Cottage Inn pizza flown in for this weekend's game. Personally, I never thought it was the best in Ann Arbor (too doughy, and I don't like my toppings underneath the cheese), but I'm in the minority amongst U of M grads. I think it's a great example of how reputation goes a long way. It's not really gourmet by most estimations, but for college students who are used to Hot and Ready pizzas, it is a step up.
It's similar to how Blimpy Burger (which used to be just down the street) is a better burger than any fast food burger, but it's not really gourmet.

Since both Little Caesar's and Domino's are from the Detroit area (Ann Arbor is only 30 minutes west), that's who they were probably thinking about when they called themselves gourmet.

Actually she doesn't call you a Bully. She refers to you as The Bully.  She has been a member longer than I.

I clicked on the I 95 and found the member. He last posted something like three years ago. Hit 2500 posts and checked out. Still don't get it.

This site is very juvenile sometimes. But I find it amusing.

To the original poster and it being spam. Why would anyone attack the guy in the first place. It was pretty harmless. Cottage Pizza is not bad for cheap pizza. I am in Michigan and had it a few times.
