Crabcakes In Baltimore Fri, 10/23/09 12:32 AM (permalink)
Doing a day trip to Baltimore for crabcakes...Flying in for a half day trip (just for lunch)  Work for an airline, so taking advantage of this perk and day to get the best crabcakes we can get!  Faidley's in Lexington Market is our choice because of the proximity to the airport (we only have 5 hours here)  What do you think???

Right choice, IMO. Plus, the Lexington Market has all kinds of other good things to eat (like Berger's Bakery layer cakes).

In case your flight gets in late and you have less time than anticipated, the crabcakes at G & M Restaurant in Linthicum Heights are also outstanding and practically next door to BWI.

Be aware of Lexington Market's hours; they close at 6pm (Monday - Saturday).  Not a place you go to for dinner.

I enjoyed your article on Baltimore crabcakes in the latest (and lamentably the last) issue of Gourmet magazine.

Faidleys is great and the Lexington Market is an interesting place; its one of those places you should see once. The atmosphere at the Lexington is pretty good and there's lots to see. But if you're coming just for the crabcakes, and nothing else, then I second the G&M.  Their crabcakes are pretty darn good and the twin crabcake platter should probably be all you eat that day. The downside is that the side dishes have less effort put into them and they're just okay. So if you're coming down this way for the experience, the Lexington definitely, but if its just for the crabcakes, then think about G&M.

I would be hard-pressed to say which is better, G&M or Faidley's. As previous posters have noted, the Lexington Market is great for local color, G&M more civil and polite. Here is a pair at G&M:

Thanks Michael.  Now I have to have crabcakes for lunch!  And there is no way it will be as good as those.

I agree, the Lexington Market has a fantastic atmosphere, although I prefer the crabcakes at G & M

I'd hit G & M and just eat crabcakes and cream of crab soup for about 4 hours, and then get back on the plane.  You can practically walk there from the airport.

I just happen to have a G&M crabcake in the freezer -- the last of a lot sent to me by a very nice person. I think perhaps that and a small steak will do very nicely for dinner tonight.

Thanks Michael!  Maybe we will hit up both of them.  Those are some wonderful pictures. Too bad you and Jane could not meet up with us.

We had a wonderful day trip to Baltimore today!  Thank you all for your help.  We went to Faidley's and G&M .....Crabcake at Faidley's was out of this world..  I will report in a trip report with pics later.. Lexington Market was a wonderful experience, great vibe and fabulous food.  I had the best cookie I have ever had in my life at Bergers Bakery.  This delight, drenched in chocolate was compliments of the house for myself and the group after we chatted them up (my friend speaks greek) Plus we told them we were on ROADFOOD mission.  This cookie wonder drenched in a "100 year old" recipe is a must have..Thanks to all for turning us on to Lexington market.  !!
