Crabills report

I stopped at Crabills in Urbana, OH last Saturday. I had just the regular hamburger,no cheese. Next time, I would get a double because the patties are small & cover about 2/3 of a small bun. The hamburger was great- edges crispy, well seasoned with salt and plenty of pepper, topped with sweet pickle relish, chopped onions, and mustard.

I also asked for a small coke and got a real traditional small bottle of coke. It was a Christmas 2005 bottle decorated in red with snow. What a find!!!

I really enjoyed the burgers, but I prefer White Castles. Since, I live in Indianapolis, I can get White Castles at any time.

Thanks for the reminder. I keep promising myself that I'm going to drive over to Urbana to sample Crabills, and I keep forgetting about it. Perhaps your post will finally get me to put myself in gear.

I tried Crabill's a couple times last year while on trips. They're very tasty little mini burgers even smaller than WC's - small balls of fresh ground beef ,squashed out flat and grilled for a minute or two and then drenched in a pool of beef fat and then assembled into the sandwich. Got to eat 3 or 4 just to satisfy your culinary desire and pass judgement.

If you're in the area and have the time ,K's Hamburger Shop in Troy Ohio is worth a stop(just 25 miles from Urbana) - it's on Main St (SR 41)in the downtown area just a block east of the circular go around thing. They are similar to Crabills but larger, close to a full size (McD) burger - ground beef balls are squashed out flat and fried in a pool of beef fat. Pretty tasty but artery clogging - crinkle cut fries are real good too.

K's. I'll try that. Thanks for the tip. I'm always looking for stuff that clogs arteries.

Oh, K's!!! I'm a Troy native and there's nothing quite like it. It's been in the same family since it was founded in 1935. FDR ate there during one of his campaigns. They've had frosted malteds since long before there was a Wendy's. People actually tip the help. I worked there after my freshman year of college, and once i was tipped $5 for a $0.35 cup of coffee. There are a lot of people who go there every morning for breakfast. I live out of syate now and I miss K's.

Hi PSzymeczek. Welcome to Roadfood. I still haven't gotten up to Troy to try K's. But I'm still intent on doing so.
