Well, the cranberry with vodka, triple sec (and a few other things) is known as a Cosmopolitan.
Many years ago there was a place in North Hollywood, CA called the Palamino Club (since you are an Angeleno you might have heard about in in the 60's and 70's). One day, a friend was in town and called me up to meet him and "a few friends" there for the Flying Burrito Bros. show. My friends was a musician from Nashville, then playing with Donna Fargo. I met him there and we sat down at a long table that was saved for our group of 10. My friend was on one side and an empty chair on the other side. After a bit, everyone was introduced. When I was introduced to the guy across from me, he was just introduced as Tim, a road manager. For some reason he had almost a grin/snicker on his face. The waitress came, and I ordered a beer.
By the way, being one of the most famous country western bars in the US, the Palamino was also known for the large quantity of fights there.
Ten minutes later, I heard a voice say practically in my ear, "what kind of !$@# *^*& drink are you drinking? I tried to avoid turning around. The next I heard was, "leave that crap and let me buy you a real man's drink". All I could say was OK. He sat down next to me, and for the rest of that evening Waylon Jennings bought me Black Russians. I never thought of a Black Russian as a woman's drink again!
PS---My friend told me the next day that one of Tim's jobs was to find a "mark" for Waylon. This was one of his favorite things to do for fun! “I’ve always been crazy– but it’s kept me from going insane.” –Waylon Jennings
