In the past several years I have found an excellent restaurant in New Orleans that I really enjoy. It is Muriel's on Jackson Square. In 2002 and 2003 it was listed as one of America's top restaurants. In 2003 the chef was named chef of the year by the New Orleans Magazine. They serve contemporary creole food which is very tasty and served eloquently. The creme brulee is the best I have ever eaten.

On Jackson Sq.? Let's assume I'm standing on Decatur St. facing the cathedral. Where would it be because I don't recall any good restaurants on the square and, if there are any, I'd like to know about it.

Yes, it is BT Linda and I ate there last year.............. kind of pricy$$$
If your standing in front of the Cafe Du Monde with white powder all over your shirt you'll be looking down St. Ann Street, Jackson Square is to your left. It's right down St. Ann's on the corner of Chartres St. which is also the street that the cathedral is on . ......... I love NO, Lin and I will be there on our way home this Oct.

The Gumbo Shop is just off Jackson Square. 630 St Peter. Fantastic.

I love the Gumbo Shop but I think everything is made off site in a commercial kitchen they have for their mail order business. I don't think that takes away but am not a gumbo expert. Cool building and dining room though.

Thanks. You picture answers the question. I'm surprised at the "pricey" comment though since when I go to New Orleans I tend to be pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the prices seem compared to equally popular places in the Bay Area.
