Hi, Crock pot stewed beef Dump a package of chopped stew beef in the crock pot. Add a can of cream of mushroom soup and a package of onion soup mix. Cook on low for the day. (I go anywhere from 8 hours to 11 hours) You can serve with rice or mashed potatoes. It makes a great gravy as well. Thanks, =========================== and

Strangely, I do the same thing with a pound or so of cubed steak or round steak, wrapped in foil and baked in the oven (250 degrees for about 3 hours). Your idea sounds great, I'll use it. I love slow cookers.

What ever happened to recipes? no canned anything, no packed anything. Fresh vegetables-------their good for ya. And the chopping is good exercise. Takes a few seconds to chop and onion, a carrot, and a stalk of celery and make a bed for the beef. Add some spuds. a little water and a little wine and some herbs---- Voila-----a great stew-----sell your stock in Campbell's and eat --------------eau naturel.

Sorta got me in the mood to make a beef stew. I will add potatoes, onions, carrots, beef stew seasoning, chicken stock and some fatty beef. I will add about a table spoon of flour to make it a bit thicker. I will fry some cornbread and make it thin where it is crispy and brown. I make the mixture very thin so it will spread out in the frying pan. It cooks very quickly and I judge it to be comple when the edges turn brown and I flip it I will put it in the crock pot and let it go overnight. It is very good the next day but even better the second. A real comfort food during some very cold weather here in Tennessee. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Paul-----you win first prize. Beats all that canned and packaged stuff 4 ways to Sunday. It also makes the house smell terrific.

How do you make fried cornbread? I always thought you ended up with what was called a corncake or a johnnycake or a hoecake that way. What's the difference?

ces1948 How do you make fried cornbread? I always thought you ended up with what was called a corncake or a johnnycake or a hoecake that way. What's the difference? Probably nothing. I just use cornmeal and water and fry it in a hot pan with oil. I fry them until the edges turn brown and flip theml. I fyou want to kick it up a notch, add corn, peppers and some pimento. I do make the batter a little runny so it is thin and fries crispy. Always good. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN
