I booked a cruise around South American on a Brand new ship. It was 41 days. I was really looking forward to it until I got to thinking about it. 41 days on a ship by myself???.. Maybe buyers remorse but I cancelled it. It was $21K. I had the cash but somehow the stress of 41 days on a boat with nobody I knew sorta got to me.

It started in Miami in January of 2009 and ended up in LA 41 days later. I am had booked a very good suite mid ship but I just could not do it.

You know you are getting old when crap like that starts stressing you.

Looks like the above had a very nice trip.

I am sorry to here you cancelled you cruise, I can understand why though.

I was thinking about it just today and had posted a "Bump" to your original post about the cruise, before I read this. So I went and deleted my bump post, since you answered my question in this post.

hey, welcome back to land, Dannybotz!

Thanks for sharing your cruise with us! It's wonderful that there is now a port in Bayonne, NJ..
Royal Caribbean takes off from there. Many people like the convenience of going out from the NY/NJ area without having to fly down to Florida to sail off.
(however, the first few days are COLD on that ship in the wintertime, huh?!?)

We have taken only one cruise and that was an Alaskan cruise starting from Seward to Glacier Bay, to Sitka, to Juneau, to Ketchikan, and ending in Vancouver in seven days. It was great. The food on board ship was great, and I ended every night in the quiet bar featuring jazz ensemblies and sipping a different single malt Scotch. It may be a while before we take another cruise. My next preference would be a Mediterranean cruise. We did a sailboat vacation for a week in the British Virgin Islands so a Caribbean cruise is not high on my list now.

I don't know if the cold would bother me all that much. It was cold on the Alaska cruise in September but we spent a lot of time on the deck. I stood many watches on deck on a Navy ship in the North Atlantic during the winter. Now that was cold. Just stay inside. I imagine your return to Bayonne would have been a tad bittersweet but a good time to wind down.

Trudy, Sam, and I spent a week in Puerto Rico and treasured our time in Old San juan. Walking around was a treat. I remember Pigeon Park where Sam fed the pigeons and I stood outside the gate watching the little rodents with wings thinking squab. We ate at the wonderful Patio De Sam and trudy fell in love with Mafongo.

Last March I went on a cruise with my Girl Scout troop!
& HS Seniors and 4 moms
we went out for Lauderdale for 7 days 6 mights western caribbean on Carnival
1st time for most of us
                        I LOVED it!
Can't wait to go again, if only I'd win the lottery LOL!
We were trying to do an Alaskan one this summer as a family but I think we're going to have to cancel-just too much $ when you multiply by 5-
To paraphase the hubs-we have to be fiscally responsible-
Anybody ever see the episode of Andy Griffith where the wife wants a mink coat for her anniversary?
                        Thats me with travel....
I mainly wish and rarely go-
                        (unless we can drive there)
It's my 50th BD this summer-
                        sure hope I don't get a vacuum cleaner...LOL
