Culver's improving accessibility Wed, 07/4/07 8:54 AM (permalink)
This article in today's Wisconsin State Journal is about a new drive-through system that Culver's is trying. It's designed to help those customers who aren't able to use the traditional 2-way audio system.

Maybe it will help the Culver's staff as well. It is not only the customer that has problems with the 2-way audio. It seems half my drive thru orders get garbled and come out wrong. That's why I prefer to just go inside and order whether I sit down there or take out.

I love the big button idea but I'm terrified that deaf drivers are out there. I put that in the same category as a bank's driver side braille drive-thru instructions.

People who are deaf tend to be better drivers than those of us who are hearing actually, because they're forced to pay more attention to what's going on around them. They also have devices that signal them with lights when there's an emergency vehicle approaching.

I'm more afraid of the inexperienced teenager driving behind me than the deaf person.

abe, learned something new here today as I didn't know about those devices. That is exactly what I was worried about. From the way many drivers fail to pull over when an emergency vehicle is near, maybe a device to kick someones butt is needed too!

Well, do you sound like you could've been a "Fargo" cast member?

I have wondered why there is a large sign on the drive-thru lanes at our local bank that says "NO WALK-UP's" but the push-buttons on the ATMs in those lanes have Braille symbols?? Now that is scarey !

Actually no. I still have my Hoosier slow soft spoken with a sigh baritone twang. I always shock myself when I listen to my automatic voice mail message feedback and say, "Yes! I still have it after 37 years" with a mental high five. And then I say, "Dad, is that you?"
