Curses

I'm in Dallas now. The main purpose of my trip was to visit the Bush Library in Dallas. And it is closed for the shutdown. This did not make me happy.

Oh no! No doubt you are eating well, but that still doesn't make up for this disappointment.

    Jim,
I understand you being miffed about the TTM treatment...but I heard that just before the shutdown, someone checked out the Book and Crayons anyway !!  ( )

Old joke, but I don't get to use it much these days !!

Since everything that has gone wrong in the past half-decade is Bush's fault, I think it wholly appropriate that his library be closed!

Rueful humor aside, there's plenty of good stuff to do in Dallas these days - just not Presidential Libraries and MLB playoff games.

May I suggest The Great State Fair of Texas?  If you are game for that I suggest you avail yourself of DART.  The light rail system is dirt-cheap, offers abundant free parking at outlying stations, and drops you off right at the Fair's entrance.

Hey, you missed the "There's a Village Missing its Idiot" bumper sticker!

Somehow though - in all the group-think, mainstream media-fed mockery and hilarity - the fact that Bush had both a higher GPA at Yale and higher SAT's than Kerry is little-known.

And, Mr. Bush also went on to earn an MBA from Harvard.  (Of course Harvard is well-known for having an affirmative action program for the scions of the wealthy elite, so I'm sure they "accomodated" W by letting him write his case studies in crayon!).

I came through the Black Hills yesterday and no Mount Rushmore! Not only did they close the gates but they put a big black Baggie over it.

Seriously, I got out of Bryce Canyon just the day before the shut down and not having national forests and national parks while RVing is a major pain. My next planned stop, Flaming Gorge NRA when down in, we'll, flames. Resorting to some state parks wasn't all bad. Antelope Island SP in the Great Salt Lake was a find with a fabulous campsite.

Custer St Park on the SD/WY line south of Rushmore is a great place for animal viewing.

Cheer up. In addition to barricading the World War II memorial in D.C., the administration shut down the cemetery in Normandy, and put up barricades to parking at privately-owned Mt. Vernon.

I lived in NoVa/WDC during the 1995 shutdown.  There was none of this petty sh*t done for spite and "optics".

Are you kidding? The administration has shut down the commissaries on military bases, but left the golf course where Obama plays open. Congress did that?

So, the United States Congress shut down the commissaries so that our military families can't buy food at prices they can afford, but made sure to keep open the Andrews AFB golf course so the president can continue to play there. I see. Thanks for sharing.

I feel your pain. I'm hoping it's business as usual in 3 1/2 weeks as Sandra and I were hoping to visit Sagamore Hill on Long Island 3 weeks from this Sunday.
BTW if we go and they're closed, I'll just blame Joe Rogo

Somehow, I think you probably mean that it's Bush's fault.  And, I agree: he has personally prevented the Senate from passing a budget for five years now, despite its Constitutional requirement to do so.

Right. By the way, I'm told that while the library itself is closed other parts of the complex are open, including a gift shop. I don't know whether it's true, but I also was told they have a line of It's Bush's Fault bumper stickers for sale.

The National Fallen Fireghters Memorial is this weekend here in Emmitsburg. Thousands from all over the Country planned to attend...cancelled...can you imagine the money lost, feelings crushed, etc. What a shame!

In this case I'll eschew a "blame Bush" wisecrack and simply agree; it is a damn shame.  Again, such petty, spiteful acts did not occur in 1995 with Clinton/Gingrich.

BTW:  Have you noticed all the "name calling" by the self-appointed arbiters of civility:  arsonists, terrorists, anarchists, 'like trying to negotiate with someone with a bomb strapped to them', etc

But today brough my personal favorite:  Tea Party Overlords.  I'm thinking of changine my title on my business cards.

Even though I contributed to the side-tracking of this topic, I must urge all, myself included, to avoid the political  frustration comments here.
It is a real blow to our domestic economy by the number of related businesses that are affected by the closure. Hopefully we will see some sort of compromise evolve shortly.
