Custy's Lobster Buffet Resurrected! Mon, 12/15/03 2:19 PM (permalink)
If you ever lived in Rhode Island, you will remember Custy's, famous for the All you can eat lobster buffet. Unfortunately, the place burned down well over a decade ago, but it appears to have resurrected on Route 2, on the way to Foxwoods resort casino! Has anyone tried this place yet? I understand that the buffet cost is now over $60.00 per person.

Custys is on the way to Foxwoods. I unfortunately was the female companion of a very thin man with a gargantuan appetite in September while we were going down to try our hand at some craps. So he pulls into Custys for dinner.......my lord, I have never seen so much food. And since I worked for Yankee Lobster and smelled lobster cooking (yuck) every day and had to handle the darned buggers every day I did NOT want to see lobster on my plate for supper!
The thin man ate his share of lobsters, oh about 5 or 6, amongst other things. He paid for dinner so I don't know what they wacked us for the buffet which was totally wasted on me who ate some scallops and a salad.
I did win $500 at craps though!

Oy, died and gone to heaven! Little pricey but fantastic. Now why couldn't the place be here in Florida? There's a $10 off coupon on the site good for January for anyone that intends on visiting.

Had to post it; check out the testimonials.

A sampling; "I stopped at ten lobsters, had a couple steaks, then I hit the desserts. And ended off with a little melon…"

              "I loved it… start to finish…I’ll be back… I only had 16 lobsters… only… that’s what I come for…"

When I first read this, I had just watched Raging Bull so thought of how one would 'train' for Custy's. Would you not eat anything for about 24 hours so you would be really hungry or would you gorge yourself for a few days in advance to stretch your stomach out?

My dad, back in his service days, ravaged and I do mean ravaged Custy's. Fifteen lobsters and 75 shrimp was his personal best. He is still 180 #; he just has that kind of metabolism. Mom would make 2# of pasta for dinner, one for us and one for him!

I worked at Custy's in R.I. in the mid 70's, and I hope the new place is cleaner than when I worked there......

How much of a "big eater" can you be to eat $60. worth of seafood? I'm sure there are lots of folks out there, but it sounds scary to me.
